Heyal, TranceAddicts ;)

This might sound a bit to you, but what i'm gonna say now works fine for me, anyway.. I produce and arrange my trance tracks in Reason2 and when i'm out of, like, inspiration, i think of words and things that i find interesting, and then suddenly these notes jump into my head.. you might find this really stupid, but try it out yourself!
For Example, what do you hear when you think of the word 'Water Dragon' or 'Firefly' or 'Sunburst'..

It works fine with me, but if you think i'm crazy you can always draw notes in randomly and then play with them a little, don't be 'afraid', just play with the notes, although this seldomly works
for me..

If this doesn't work for you then maybe should do some remixes first, and change the main tune of the song, not too much, so you can still hear it's

I hope i have given you a little help, cos i know there are lots of people out there who are stuck and i know that is F*ckin' frustrating.. Keep your head up! You can also try to make remixes of cool tunes you know, like a stupid commercial or something and make a trance song out of it...

Good luck, TA's

I wish they made waterproof production equipment because I think that ninety percent of my ideas come to me when I'm in the shower. Maybe it's the smell of the shampoo.;)

Nice thread. I find it difficult to come up with a nice melody, so time to try it this way. Thanks for the suggestion!

I use imaginary thought if exotic locations. SOmetimes the feeling about a girl will do it. That word suggestion is good...just tried it and made up a wikid melody. What also works is to listen t another genre of music altogether and take amelody from there and mess with it until it's a whole different one.

i find that listening to lyrics in languages i do not speak helps expose some nice melodies...i watch a lot of anime and find all sorts of inspiration in the japanese lyrics...prolly cuz the lanuage is so different than english phonetically (sp?)...or i listen to chanting for pad arrangements etc...it is nice to not comprehend the meaning of the language and just respond to the aesthetic presense...

I follow the same method but since I'm not trained in any instrument I find it very difficult to transcribe what's in my head. But I do take your step just a bit further. I think in phrase not just a single word unless it has multiple syllables. I turn phrases into grooves and grooves into melodies or basslines. I also search for grooves in nature. Just clear your mind and open your ears. Listen to the little nuances around you. Like when you were young and rode a skateboard. The way the wheels hit the grooves in the pavement. You knew what to expect in sound before it happened. I love that groove. Then transcribing that for just a beat became so powerful.
Also if your not trained you might take a recorder with you and record yourself or your surrounding. Throw the recordings into ReCycle, Cyclone, or similar prog and generate a loop then a groove. Import the groove and mess with the quantizing, length, and velocity.
