sorry mate, that's not very nice, but i had too.
anyway, NO don't get that package. the tables are belt driven. NEVER EVER EVER even consider getting belt driven decks for djing.
from that site, the cheapest thing i could find that would even be worth it would be this:
http://www.123dj.com/packages/turntable/str860_3.html
but, if i were you, i would tell him to save up for technics. they are expensive for a reason, and fully worth it. cheap decks will burn you in the end, whether you like them or not. |

Well, to be honest, i have heard bad things about that site.
2 key things to tell your brother. Belt drive Decks are absolutely not an option.
Technics are the decks he wants. they work well, hold their pitch, have high torque, high resale value, and a long service life.
however, one technics deck without a needle will cost about twice what you wanted to spend on that DJ package. then you still need another one, a mixer, and needles. look to spend at LEAST a grand.
it seems like a lot, but, think of it this way. if you buy a crap package, you WILL need to sell it. either to upgrade if you decide to get serious about DJing, or to get rid of it if you don't want to get serious. and you are going to have trouble selling low grade equipment like that.
If you buy technics, you can sell them for pretty much what you bought them for if you need to, and if you don't want to, you will never need to upgrade!
so, final score, lose lose for crap decks, win win for technics.
(if i had a dollar for everytime i've said this on this forum, i could buy another deck!)
as for a mixer, it doesn't really matter. cheap ones will fall apart and need to be replaced within a year. slightly better ones will last longer. high end ones like rane, allen and heath will last a long time. it all depends on what initial layout of cash you want.
I got a vestax pcv275, sorta middle of the line, and i am happy with it. you will also need needles, but that's up to you as well. |
