I recently purchased a second hand Laptop, for £200 , its a P2 , 500mHZ Etc , Ive reformated the HD and put windows XP on the system. Everything is running smoothly , I have noticed that is has a PCMCIA Card in one of the Sockets, Now ive never tried to use one of these cards before. What i want is to connect to the internet, is it possbile ? of is a PCMCIA Card just for Networks ? What speed do you get from these cards, anyone any info, thanks........

you need a wireless gateway/router to get online. Your card and the router have to be compattible with eachother in order for them to work.

PCMCIA card (also known as CardBus) is just an extension card like your regular PCI/AGP/ISA/NuBus card, really.. It is designed to add functionality to your notebook... There are many different PCMCIA cards, from wireless network to ethernet to scsi interface to modems to little pink dog washing machines... Basically, take a look at it and try to figure what it does.. Taking it out and seeing the brand name on it might also help, as you can visit the manufacturer's website.. Finally, windows xp could of auto-detected it.. Go to control panels->system->hardware->device manager and see what it says there...
