take your notepad application ( start button -> programs/accesories )
and according to your os go to one of the following directories
c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts in Win2k
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts in XP
c:\windows\hosts in Win98
make sure notepad is looking for *.* and NOT *.txt ( check at the bottom of the open file box )
open the file hosts
and add the following at the bottom of the list
127.0.0.1 dcplusplus.sourceforge.net
Save the file, restart DC++, you're in ! :)
This fix prevents DC++ from connecting to dcplusplus.sourceforge.net and try to parse a faulty xml file that is located on that website, which in effect causes the application to crash.
Now don't forget if you wish to access dcplusplus.sourceforge.net you will have to go in the list hosts again and remove it.
problem seems to be solved now so no need to run this little fix |

I'm using an other solution :
If you have a firewall, you've just to block ports 80 and 8080 to dc++
it'll work fine ;) |

...or another workaround is to:
1. Close your internet connection
2. Open DC++ (and leave it open)
3. Reconnect to the internet
4. Connect to the hub of your choice. |

while that solution works, preventing it to connect to the dc++ website to parse the faulty xml file, I think that's a tad annoying to have to do that each time :p ;) |

Hey you know, this crash was due to a version.xml file that was downloaded from the sourceforge website, but they removed it, so ... no problem now.
EDIT: hum, not really in fact, they fixed it! this version.wml file is now fully working -> no more crashes... |
