| Hi every one. I was once told that ther are rules when using FX on sounds. What I mean is that the signal should go throught the fx in a certain order for better processing. For example flanger should be before reverb. I was hopeing you guys can maybe list some of the orders that they should go by and mabe give an exmple what the order is better for ie. trance lead , kick and so forth... |

there is only one important single rule:
If it sounds good it is good
And don't let anyone tell you it "should" be done in any particular way. That's the way everybody sounds like evrybody and nobody experiments. That leads to nothing new.
So use your ears and remember the one rule :) |

Was just about to write that! :D
U just have to try different combos man!
One thing I always add to my samples is Stereo Delay. With the proper setting u won't need as much reverb which means u get a clearer mix.
This doesn't go for all sounds but works very well on most leads.

| unless u r trying to achieve some particular effect reverb should be last in the chain |

you know what works pretty cool for vocals? put a delay on them, and then put a phaser on that delay (not on the vocal itself)
Guess you can try that for other instruments too |

Guys he's looking for the basics... I found a couple of basic.
Generally let the reverb be the last in the chain.(There are exceptions one that I found was try gating the reverb.)
Using FXs on Insert will change the overall sound.
Using FXs on send will give a sound some enhanced background.
Guitars standard FX order is: Compress->EQ->Distort->Modulate(Pitchshift, Phase/Flange, Chorus)->Volume->Tremelo->Delay->Reverb.
You seriously have to get to know your FXs and what they do. Their order is key to how you craft your piece. Generally its Reverb, Delay, & Chorus that are sends. But it changes on your desired FX. Trance uses heavy reverb on leads and pads. The Drum sound will not use the same reverb as the lead and the lead is more prominent than the actual drums. So the reverb in this case would be used as an insert. Unless you are trying to convey the an effect like dropping the lead sound and leave the reverb tail to continue in the back ground haunting like a ghost(Reverb as a send->Delay after reverb). Or if you used it in reverse (Delay as a send->Reverb after delay) where it would boost the sound a bit but if you dropped the lead the sound just drifts away.
Delay->Pitchshift->Delay->Pitchshift(Repeat) Can give the FX of the sound of caving in on itself. Add pan so each delay goes from left to right is a nice FX.
First FXs in the chain are more promininent. Just play and see, er hear. |
