what are .rar files and how do i use them...

hey everyone,
alright so i got an opportunity to get a lot of awesome stuff, but its in .rar format. i tried to use them, but my computer doesn't know what to open them with and neither do i. can someone explain these and help me out.

yo robstar,
alright i got the winrar thing but i ran into a little bit of trouble ie i get this message...
"you need to have the following volume to continue extraction...insert a disk that has this volume to continue extraction"
do you know what that means and what i have to do to make the stupid thing work... |

Hmm...Seems like u are missing a file or two.
when u compress a game or a movie u split em in to maybe 20-40 rar files.
so to be able to extract the file u need to have all rar files.
It doesn't work if u miss on rar file. :/ |
