why is b0onzai blaming it on mp3's? (pg. 3)

As you can see above, there are 'dj's' out there which download mp3 and make their gigs that way, i think this is wrong and also what necked bonzai.
downloading music as itself isn't bad at all as discussed above but if mp3 wasn't there you would have to buy cd's or vinyl to dj. now you don't have to any more, it's a lot cheaper for people to do cd's(mp3)
I myself only use vinyl but a dj i know only uses mp3 because it's cheaper...
if everybody did this al the record companies would die out!
and whithout them we can forget seeing likes as Tiesto, Marco V, Johan Gielen, Ferry Corsten or PvD
so just download mp3 2 play for yourself or use it and buy the cd so i can hold on to my statement:
TRANCE WILL NEVER DIE...!

I have one question for you people

every try writing a song?

imagine all the time, tears and hard work that go into writing a song.

then imagine writing an anthem or a good song.

extremely HARD to do.

think about all the costs that go into getting a top notch studio.

all the time they put into it.

seriously, THINK ABOUT IT

this is their FULL TIME JOB

everyone here dismisses it

give it some more time

you guys will realize how bad this situation is right now. you dont see it yet...
there will be very little quality music out there because all your favorite artists will have to find normal jobs to support themselves.

what are you gonna do when theres no good music out there?

downloading is a great tool to preview music. go out and support it too!

question, but what is the ratio of people who downloaded Politics of Dancing to those that bought it?

downloading it and NOT buying it afterwards.
I know alot of ppl say "Im gonna download this and if its good, il buy it! Promise!",
but they don't. The second after they have downloaded it they say,
"Hey, I already got it now, why would I want to buy it?"

THAT is what is driving music labels nuts, and some of them, down
the drain.

I download lots of music, but I buy lots and lots too.
For me its just a good opportonity to see if L-Vee, Ferry, Oakenfold
or anyone else has managed to do a good job, I refuse to buy tunes
that I havent listened too because record labels release too much
sheit and a vinyl full of sheit aint worth it.

So, before you go along saying that they are full of bull and that
you would never have discovered trance if you hadnt downloaded it,
think of this, how much have you paid them back in respect and money?
Have you bought a full lenght album more then once?
Have you bought a cd full of tunes that you already have on your
computer?

Or have you just downloaded it and said "They should be glad mp3s exist,
otherwise I would never have discovered them!"

Well, if no one buys their music it doesnt matter if you are downloading it or not,
it doesnt bring any profit what so ever.

Well said. I used to be one of those turds that would d/l an entire mix compilation. But once I took the crap out of my eyes and realized how much this was contributing to the record shops/labels going bankrupt, I stopped. I'm doing my part by going out and buying mixes again, and everyone should do the same, not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it's the only way to keep these shops and labels alive (as well as decrease the bleeding of our scene to a certain extent). It also helps support upcoming DJs/producers as well as the big name folks. Look, they haven't found a good compromise yet between MP3 technology and old school shops/labels, so don't give a stupid copout like "it's not my fault they haven't caught up with the times yet". So that makes it okay to bend them over and shove a pole up their asses? Do what's right in the present by buying mixes and allow the compromise to work out over time.

The fact of the matter is if a label puts out quality music, then they will sell. I like many of the tracks that Bonzai has put out in the past, maybe their music is not as attractive to some as it was in the past. The same with some other labels.

Not true, actually.
Numeours of guys and girls you ask about why they dont buy their music
will answer "Why should I buy it when I can get it for free?", doesnt
matter how good the stuff is If the person in the first place isnt
in to paying for their stuff.

I understand labels and producers having issues with downloads, but unfortunately that is the way this comunity works. That is the way we live today. One good thing comes out of it..People are listening to their music, enjoying the productions and spreading the love and passion for the music. Maybe it is time for lables to come up with alternative ways to generate money. Planning events, parties and festivals is a good way to generate money and get your name out.

Thats messed up. You are saying that labels should NOT be able to make
a profit from what they are meant to do, SELLING music but they should
instead arrange parties and so on and more or less give away all their
music?

That is just wrong. You cant accept that people download music and
say that its okay with stealing because its how the society works.
I understand artists and labels that gets pissed of at ppl just downloading
their stuf over and over, I would, I wouldnt care if I had a fanbase
of 1 billion ppl if they werent paying for the music. Id rather
have a fanbase that payed for themselves, ensuring that I would have
a job and a label to release my music.

People seem to have acecpted the idea that stealing is "okay" because
its "how it works today", but its not. Its wrong.

To me, if the music is getting out there, that is the most important thing. If anyone agres or disagrees, please let me know your thoughts

Then why release your music on a label and not on mp3.com or whatever?
Music labels are here to deliver music to people who wants to buy it
and get a personal copy on vinyl, mc, cd or whatever, not for free tho.

i paid 20 US bucks for it. so much nicer to listen to a cd then mp3

IMO it comes down to this.

If you really love and respect the music you listen to, as some of us breath and live by trance (amongst other genres I'm sure), then you'll do the right thing and not come up with something like "why buy it when I can have it for free".

MisterOpus1, I see your point mate. As my love for trance, in particular, grew and grew, I gained respect for the people that are responsible for this and to me, it's now worth spending money on vinyls or cds. Not only is it just worth it though, it's more than worth it. I like buying music, not only to be able to play it, but as a tribute to the producers that have given me something amazing.

the only cd's i will ever buy are from Pearl Jam

my fav band, and i like having all their stuff

trance albums are too expensive in canada

plus i have a Car MP3 player, and i love the idea of putting 15 hours worth of music on one cd rather than 80 minutes

Exactly. I do buy CD's when i can, but whenever i look for a CD from someone other than ATB, PvD, or bigger names, you will almost likely have to import it, costing lots more money. And even with the big names, they might only have 1 or 2 of the names.

A HMV in edmonton a month ago had some imported CD's. My eyes nearly popped out when i read $40 for (I believe) a single CD album (might have been a double, but i don't think so), not a mix.

While i don't spend a lot of time looking for CD's, this is how i've often found it.

So i am stuck downloading. i would buy more albums, as having the original CD is so much more rewarding than just downloading it.

I'm the opposite to a lot of guys on here. I discovered mp3's and the internet after buying all my vinyl.

Personally I'm totally against downloading mp3 singles. All online record stores have a facility for you to listen to tracks before you buy. Alternatively listen to any one of the new live sets broadcast on internet radio that are shared round the net, don't see a problem with these as they've already been broadcast, plus the tracks are mixed.

As for CD compilations, most of them are commercial compilations only containing those tracks that they've managed to licence/ have another motive/interest in getting revenues from. Personally I can't wait for Gatecrasher et al to go to the wall (bankrupt in US speak) for over-commercialising the music I love. The sooner it goes back underground the better. Dont worry I have flame suit ready :D

Downloading albums put out by trance labels e.g. platipus, hooj choons etc is a whole different ball game and totally unexcusable. There's a survey doing the rounds that Airwave aka L-Vee i going to jack it all in cause his last album was on the net before he'd even made it public. I mean wtf is going on.

Seriously though, I've got 1 album I've downloaded and listened to once (I have 100GB of radio live sets), I have no intention of buying it, I've got most of the tracks on it in any case, and it's produced by some superclub.

I run a downloads site for people to download live sets that are broadcast on the radio (some might think this hypocritical), this is no different to people listening and recording the set, I'm simply widening the audiance base, and the popularity of the music. BUT, the sharing of producer albums and singles imho is not good for the scene. Continue doing this, and the producers will no longer exist.

I buy records and will continue to buy them, I've just spent £175 on records the last 2 months, so I'm more than contributing, and my record collection is vast enough that I now haven't a clue how many records I've got, my parents store a load in their loft thank god.

Each to their own, but for lightening/bonzai to blame mp3's soley is totally wrong. a lot of people will have bought vinyl on the strength of hearing the mp3. Also I put money on the fact it had very few US distributors where the interest is probably growing fastest.

Just my 2p
