| Philby, if he hadn't have downloaded those mp3s, do you think he would have bought those vinyls? |

If mp3s didnt exist, I would never have got into trance, I would never have started djing and i would never have bought any records, in which the producers get thier money :)
The same goes for buying cds.
Just wich there was a win / win situation for bothe consumers and the producers :/ |

So was his album ever released in Australia, or do we have to import for 50 - $60 like most quality trance?
Seriously, start releasing your stuff down here and we wont have to download it.
mind you, most of the cd's I buy are around that mark anyway |
I found it a record shop in canberra for $35. |

you cant justify the excess downloading of mp3s like that. He is still getting something for nothing. Its not as bad stealing physical things like cars where the owners actually miss it. But its still depriving the artist of income.
Do i do it too? yes.
Do i try and justify it? no.
Do i know that its ultimatly wrong? yes. |

at the end of the day its a double edges sword... i think mp3s have helped and promoted artists as much as they have hurt them financially... its technology, you cant control it. give the current prices of vinyl i for one, do feel for the artist but what about us the consumer. we cant afford to spend 20 dollars on every ing tune just to hear it, granted there are listening booths in record stores but without the mp3, there wouldnt be hype around tracks certain tracks wouldnt be saught after and the community in general would be less clued in. which i think would reflect on the enthusiasm of events etc. how many of you that goto the gigs can say every track you trainspotted you had heard through a 'legal' avenue. off. MP3s have advantages and disadvantages, they treat the entire consumer markets as greedy drones who just want to download as much as possible and thats a insult to all the people out there spending there hard earned dosh on the vinyls, cds or whatever they first hear on mp3
i find it hard to believe airwave cant pay his bills because of the mp3 format, that is the biggest load of bull i have ever heard, the amount of income he must have generated just from users on this message board would be enough to have someone clean his balls everyday |

hey i have no problem with downloading an mp3 then saying "hey thats mad i'll go buy it". however, telling everyone that you have downloaded 70 productions from just one artist and then justifying it by saying "hey its all good, i bought two of them" is just stupid. blaming everything on mp3 is also stupid though. 100% agree with escee and jah. |

Agreed, there are advantages and disadvantages.
Philby, i can say quite honestly that if it weren't for mp3 i wouldn't have bought one single vinyl of L-vee's or anyone else for that matter. I probably wouldn't even know what trance is.
What i don't get is what is this petition going to do?? Stop programs such as Direct Connect?? |

Yeah i know its not right to do it but my comment before (on the first page) was looking at my situation realisticly. It may be different for other people. |

Same situation as me. I wouldnt have started listening to trance if it werent for mp3. Yesterday i bought 2 lvee records (Capetown and Fire and Ice EP) Had it not been for mp3 i might have skipped over them.
I just think trying justifying dowloading a tonne of is wrong. |

I think Airwave's a bit money hungry....so much for being in it for the music. Fair enough that he wants to make money - dont we all. But to actually consider quitting it all together because of mp3s is just arselike. "I can't afford the latest equipment" blah...sell some of the old stuff, plus the equipment can be stretched to extroadinary lengths.
I download a load of music, i get about 100meg a day and dont delete it after 24 hours. Im a , i download all this and say i'm an artists biggest fan. Reason is, is because i'm not a DJ yet, so i aint buying CD singles or vinyls. Show me a place to buy livesets!! I still buy a lot of CDs. I'm up to about 50 albums now, and ever rising. I'm gonna go buy the new GU next Monday, hurrah. I'm also gonna ask about Dajae and Full Intention and whether or not they've released an album or compilation or ANYTHING! Jah sent me Dajae and Full Intention - What do you Want (dub) earlier. This is one phat ass tune. Mp3's have their pros and cons for sure, and honestly...i dont consider it stealing as long as the music stays on the hard-drive. As soon as you burn the album to CD, your a uber-. I've done this a few times myself, only because i needed to hear the album on my stereo, I'm gonna go buy the albums some day soon - most likely when i see em in the store.
I read in an interview with a high profile producer (sorry, forgot which one) and he talked about how labels are very cautious over what to release nowadays. You know what, GOOD!!! We the consumer deserve quality music, especially if we're paying $30 for a CD - sometimes as high as $55 for imported . Another thing, L-Vee, I'll buy your music if you stopped making tracks the same as every other one of ur tunes!! Rest assured, he's made some sweet tracks over the years, but they're all the same! 'Go King Kickdrum, Keep on Kickin!' |
