How to play a ".avi" file??

Since the search function is down at the mo and i'm in kind of a rush could somebody tell how to play a .avi file.

| You only really need the divx player for divx .avi files (usu movies that are ripped off dvds). Otherwise avi files can be played in media player. |

Once you install the right DivX codec, Windows Media Player can handle DivX avi's just fine!
But you can always use a special DivX player.
I like GlobalDivX a lot!
