Great idea Fastdj, I don't know the difference so well, so post the samples. I have seen a site with all the genres on a row, but i don't know the url anymore.

| Hey, Fastdj. I concur with the other ppl concerning marking a distinction between all of the different subgenres. I personally like to know the differences for two purposes. The first: I like to be a wise consumer of trance music. The second: I feel that the gamut of emotions that one feels from the individual intruments, interaction of the intsruments, and the resultant sounds must be set to paper. Call it an idiosyncrasy, but I like to do this on my journal. Hopefully, those will turn into published poems. Anyway, I would suggest to look go to www.eurodancehits.com. They should still have a dictionary briefly describing the genres of dance and/or some artists and labels to look into. Hope that helps. |

for me it's hard to say - all djs mix different styles in their works... PvD's Out there and Back - melodic trance, but his earlier works also contain hard and progressive elements.

i think this all goes back to the fact the tunes always sit on boundaries..
hard to define which one it sits in unless it obvious |

yes, and we also can't but agree that all djs/producers also have an evolution process, they play their styles but music changes...
any suggestions?
Greetings, :) :D :)

too lazy. :p
but a lot of choonz nowadays cross between 2 sometimes 3 or 4 different genres at once. it's really cool though. i mean can you seriously define things? not really...
it's like science imo, even the most ancient definitions of things get revamped and new things get discovered, in this case, they go back to their definition and change it accordingly. |

uplifting and melodic TENDS to be very closely linked (as well as the term epic)
all relating towards... anthemic trance.
kathys song (ferry corsten mix) is a perfect example of this i dooo believe
and then you simply have hard trance (which is close to tech trance)
progressive trance
goa and/or psy trance.
that's not TOO many. |
