www.divx.com

download and install divx 5.0x and that should solve the issue

actually, your best bet would be this program. because there is more than one codec for encoding dvd's. the one in the previous post, will only play ONE codec, divx. the link i gave you, will play all of them. to ensure that anything you download will work, use the one i gave you. let me know if you have anymore questions.

You'll need at least 3 main codec's, divx, xvid and AC3.

That isnt very helpful.

If you open up the file in media player it should connect to the microsoft server and then download the codec for you.

If it doesnt use the link in the 2nd post.

However some dvd downloads need you to burn them to a cd, and then you cna watch them as a vcd.

But if that is the case then there should be instructions with the download :D

Yeah it is - for starters, he's watching avi files, so that narrows the codec's down.

Mircosoft doesnt house most of the files, so they're pretty useless.

Using google, you can easily obatin these files - he only needs to know the names of them ;)

It's not a DVD, but a DVD rip. And since it's .avi it's either DivX or XviD. I would recommend using SLD Codec Pack, it has all useful codec. Get it at www.skynet4ever.tk

WOW!!!!

excellent question as i was just about to post this here!

on some of my .avi files, i cant hear the sound. on some others, i cant view the picture (the trancey visualization appears) but the sound works.

damn, and i even have this codec pack installed that does xvid, divx, ac3, and some other rubbish as well...and STILL wont do. i'll try the ones you guys recommend! :)
