i bet my head to be chopped off (both of them, if you want to:D) that you will NEVER notice a difference between a 192kbps MP3 and a CD played in a club (i mean not like the ideal situation with no people in the club and a very good sound system, but the "normal" packed club)
moreover, quite often 192kbps CD rips sound MUCH BETTER than pure-sounding vinyls because of the inevitable dust-popping on vinyl's surface. even though i am quite obsessed with vinyls, most people want the clearest sound and don't want that cracks and pops as the true authenticity of the dj. |

lol... if u take care of your vinyls and always play them clean, u wont have such a problem... and im not even gonna comment about 192kbs cd rips sounding much better than 'pure-sounding vinyls' lol.. u obviously are not obsessed with vinyls cuz u dont know\appreciate the sound quality that wax provides.. |

this is not at all true. when converting from wav to mp3 u lose crucial hi's and lo's that are very very noticeable on a decent sound system ;) |

agreed. BUT. not when there are a couple hundreds (or many more) of people around you each one screaming and blowing the whistle. |

| Yea i think the problem is when people get careless with the CDR and it leaks, and yea i see your point, headliners or pro djs should use vinyl one because of sound quality, two because they get them for free neway, and i think they all complain about mp3s i think they should buy the vinyls and support artist, like mentioned earlier. Althoug 1000's of songs vs. a couple of crates, whew what an advantage. |

as for the main point of discussion:
yeah, i think it is obligatory that djs play the music they bought or received as promos (whether cds or vinyls). just to support the producers. |

Personally, when doing my show, I try to play as many indie artists as possible. I make a point of playing everything local, and granted, some of the luckier DJs in London get their stuff on wax, which I play, but most are perfectly satisfied sending me mp3s to play. Also, a lot of rare vinyls, or stuff that hasn't been released yet, I have on mp3. Of course I'll purchase them once I can find them, but I'm not going to be an ass and make my listeners wait until I order something from the UK.
As for the quality, I used to be all for new technology taking over the old. However, when I heard my first vinyl after hearing the same song over mp3 many times over (Sasha - Xpander), I was blown away. The acoustic qualities of a well maintained vinyl take the cake, and you can encode at 320KBS and piss everyone off with a 30 meg mp3 :tongue2 and it will never even come close.
So, for artists who need to get heard, vinyl is not necessary. However, vinyl is better, and supporting the artist who has released on vinyl is better...
