Archiving Your Vinyl

| How do you guys archive your vinyl? Excel, Notepad, etc? I personally use excel, but is their a program that can make this process easier. Maybe something with a search function and have detail information about your tracks. |

Access will prob. be the easiest for you to use and come across.
Access is the DB portion of Office. I believe one of the DB templates that comes w/ it is for a music colletion. I started one that was going to have an access front-end and sql server backend (just cuz i am a nerd and have sql server running on my computer for work-related shiznit) and work w/ laser-scanners & a barcode printer. I was going to give every bin that holds records in our place a code, and when you search for the record, it would tell you where it was suppossed to be.
I could see if I could find the db i started, but I would just look into Access and start learning that. If you know VB, you should be able to work Access even better, it uses VBA (very similar to VB) as the code behind all the forms |

| Yeah, Access looks similar to visual basic. I never used it before, but looks easy to use. I actually found a template at the Microsoft website and it works pretty well. I'm going to try to make a few modifications to it (needs a search function). I would code my own program using visual basic, but I just don't have the time right now. |

| A few years back i had a program for keeping track of comic books, i have no idea what the name of it was though hehe. but im swure if you somehow figured tht vital information out it mnight help. I know it had a search feature though :) |

Searching through access is possible, though its just not a simple 'search'
you can restrict it to only show things that contain a certain characteristic (or in this case match a word)
i was thinking of making a database of all my records just for the sake of knowing what i have so i don't make double purchases ;) , and incase something gets stolen, i know exactly what was stolen (for insurance reasons i guess)
but i think for insurance you have to have a picture of each record :eek: |
