Michael Moore booed as he slams Iraq war at Oscars
56 minutes ago
HOLLYWOOD (AFP) - Famed US documentary maker Michael Moore (news) used his win of an Oscar to launch a violent attack on US President George W. Bush (news - web sites) and war in Iraq (news - web sites) amid loud boos from the audience.

"We live in fictitious times," he said when picking up the award for best documentary for his anti-gun film "Bowling for Columbine."
"We live in a time with fictitious election results that elect fictitious presidents. We live in a time when we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons.
"We are against this war Mr Bush. Shame on you. Shame on you!," he said to loud boos from an of 3,500 including most of Hollywood's top stars.
When he went backstage at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre to face reporters, Moore was unapologetic for his outburst.
"I'm an American, and you don't leave your citizenship when you enter the doors of the Kodak Theater. What's great about this country is that you can speak your mind," he said.
He said that, far from being appalled, many people in the audience stood up to applaud him.
"I say tonight I put America in a good light," he said praising the decision to push ahead with the Oscars (news - web sites) despite the war raging in the Middle East.
"I showed how vital it is to have free speech in our country and all Americans have the right to stand up for what they believe in," he said. |

| Mike Moore saying Bush is a fictitious president is subversive. I'm all for peace, but he took it too far, and this is reflected in the resounding boos coming from the hollywood elite. Most people in that theatre loved Bowling for Columbine, and they still booed, that says something. My message to Mike Moore for saying the part about the fictitious president (just for saying this, I'm not taking a side on that issue), Downsize this. See above. |

| He has a right to say what he wishes, but saying what he did shows he has little class. |

i saw it.
i randomly turned on the tv just intime too.
i say good for him for speaking out.
i think he should have been more subtle in what he said though.
he's been getting too emotional.
it would have been great if he said something really subtle that most people wouldn't get, or would have to think about for awhile.
definatly alot more classy.
but he spoke out, too many are too too. |

maybe the people who were booing just had the loudest voices .. :p
personally i like Michael Moore and loved Bowling for Columbine, altho i think he could have done what he did a little better.. it was quite sporadic .. |

| You know the irony behind the statements he made really make me laugh. If he were Iraqi and made those same statements about Saddam he would have been jailed then executed. But the war we fight is unjust!! Some people really take for granted the freedoms and liberties they have. Mr Moore seems to be one of those people. |

No, he fully acknowledged that he had this right in America.
"I showed how vital it is to have free speech in our country and all Americans have the right to stand up for what they believe in," he said. |

Michael Moore is a guy who knows what he is talking about.
Although personally, I think this was the wrong way to go about sending a message. |
