All i have to say about all this IS that we are the customers and we were satisfied of Sona the club was something and i wont be the only one with some wonderful memories of this wonderful WAREHOUSE club...
it was something really, dark dirty and i remember my first time i was in scared ,but just remember the good things and stop mentionning the bad stuff with all these behind the scene ,that we shouldnt be giving a about!!!
if ur bored then do something else then bitching ...
yah sometimes i got angry at 514 for cancelations and the way they did this and that but who tha is perfect.
yah sometimes we got screwed coz of cancelations ,but we all knew that the club was suffering financially and all i saw was the people that never set foot there bitch and bitch and say negative things coz (friend said so )and just coz they didnt know nothing .Sona gave good memories to everyone and that is the POINT, lets just remember it like that.
PEOPLE THAT KNOW A LOT DONT TALK,WHILE PEOPLE WHO DONT KNOW JUST DONT SEEM TO WANNA STOP |

There's something that I have always found quite amusing from this whole Sona debate. People say "I hate Sona because they never used to let me in" and "it is way too crowded". Because of this, from what I've understood, most of the people here started going to Aria. Since they are able to get in at Aria without any problems, they now think that this club is way better (of course, the superb quality of the club and international talent also factor in to this). What is happening is that Aria is a new club and is still in the process of creating its "inside crowd". Based on my view as a lurker on this board, it appears that many of you have gotten the privilege of joining this crowd. Here is where the problem occurs: one day this initial phase will end and it will be just like Sona is/was for everyone else. Since Sona is closing (for now? who knows...) and, presumably, Aria will get a jump in attendance, this day is likely sooner than later. At that point, what those people (who hate Sona and are now in the inside crowd at Aria) will basically be in the same situation as Sona, but will experience it from a different perspective. These are all things that one should think about.
When I used to go to Sona, I can honestly say that I never had problems getting in and I am not a connected guy. I see pics of people on this board in Aria wearing stuff like a Boston Bruins cap with a Columbia shirt (I wear those shirts too sometimes, but at Aria???). Maybe those people should have tried to dress the part or something (no I am not a Candy Raver nor a Clubber Mingione). I never had anything against 514, other than their odd marketing practices. In fact, I will always remember when Dan 514 (or was it someone else from 514?) came on this board and actually praised Aria. The post said something like we don't book many trance DJs due to the fact that Aria pursues them so aggresively. To me, that showed that they weren't as cocky as most people make them out to be...
I have nothing against Aria, especially since I have never been. I don't plan on going either (go ahead flame me saying that I will not be missed, that I am not welcomed or whatever) since I told myself that once Sona is gone, so am I. I know that Aria has crazy talent on the decks, but a promise is a promise. I hope that people won't see this post as an attack or whatever. I really do respect the way Aria chose to market its club (forums, owner accessible via form, videos of events, etc.).
That is all... |

the fact that you won't go to Aria is more stubborn than anyone who doens't like sona for the bad things its done. At least we arent' going for good reasons, yours are just pure stubborness! Besides I"ve heard (possibly just rumours), about the that goes on at Sona, I would rather not be involved with a club like that! Provided a club is under good management like Aria is, it should last longer than 5 years! I feel that both Aria and Sona have grown and matured quite well and quite rapidly in the past year. Stereo has some great bi-monthly residents and Aria gets in the best in talent from around the world! These two clubs both have the makings of becoming a superclub. All they need is the same exposure.
Besides any other reasons for going to Sonas closing I wouldn't go because they aren't putting on much of a show to close out, obviously they care a lot less than you do about their own heritage and what it means to them! |

With all due respect !!
Yeah sona have given everbody's great night ( ecept for me .. i was there once .. and i totally hated it but that's another story )
Yeah they've brought incredible talents to montreal.
Yeah they're resident use to be great ( remember when Barbara , laflèche , tiga , xl , yaz , maus were weekly residents ?)
But now ? what are they doing ? Nothin they're closing .. a page of montreal's nightlife history is closing.
I think we should all have at least one minute to think about the fact that .. for the major part of us ... Sona bring us to the underground world of after hour ... and if it's only for that ... they deserve our respect.
Believe me i don't realy like 514 and/or sona but i really do think we have to give them some credit. At some point they brought Montreal on the world map for electronic music. They created the "house" sound of motnreal. Aria's doing the same thing for montreal ... it is puting montreal on the world for one of the best techno city !! With great ersident too !!
Sp what they had financial problems , so what they had a hard time on paying dj's, so what u couldn't enter. It USED to be a incredible club and i erally do think that it should not reopen.. leave it as it is ... a legend. If they don't want people to stop thinking about it ... they should stop .. they've got the industry and should concenttrate on it as they are already getting some problem and it's not even open ( thinking about the whole david morales/max graham )They should leave theire place to the three other after hour that try to bring new discovery to this city ( Aria, Stereo, Red-lite )
Oh yeah for all of those who bitch about the aria 'cause it's too mainstream, too lighted, too much people, too everything. Get over it Sona use to be the same .. if not it used to be worste. At least anybory can enter @ aria, you're sure not to miss the dj's you've been trying to see for so long !! I will kill if i cannot enter @ sona/aria/stereo when Deep Dish/Timo Maas/Danny tenaglia will come back to montreal. Not because it's too packed ... but just because i don't look like what they want for there club
Anyway
That Was my point .. if u don't agree with it just go to F****** Hell !!

First of all, "anyone who doens't like sona for the bad things its done" is a general statement (what did they commit crimes against humanity? was there genocide in the bothroom? LOL) and you should either expand on it or retract it.
I would like to say that I am not one of those stubborn Sona-Only-Policy people, as you have assumed. I am not one of those Sona is better than Aria advocates. I have even praised Aria in the above post. So why don't I want to go to Aria? Here it is:
Fist of all, I saw the angle that you took while I was writing my post. So why did I leave it in? Because I am being honest. I could just have easily said (like many people above about Sona) that I went once to Aria and didn't like it. How can you judge a club based on one night? For me, it took me a while before I really started enjoying going to Sona. In fact, I find it funny that you call me stubborn and then say something like "I"ve heard (POSSIBLE JUST RUMOURS), about the that goes on at Sona". My reasons for not going to Aria are not based on rumours. Someone said above that Sona's closing represents the end of a chapter in MTL club history. Well, that is probably the main reason why I don't plan on going to Aria. For me, it is a good time to step out of the scene. Notice how I said scene and not Aria. Maybe I should have been more precise because, in fact, I don't really plan on going to ANY of the afters (maybe Sona2, but don't think so). It's not like I am limiting myself to Stereo, Level, etc. I am not going to any of those, including (in no particular order lol) Aria. To me, this is a good time to step out of the scene (personal crossroads, I guess). Once again, I am proud to say that I have nothing against Aria (you have something against Sona), so my opinion isn't skewed towards defending my viewpoint. To you Aria is the greatest and Sona is crap. To me Sona was my homebase and Aria was another club. I know this wasn't the case with other Sona people, perhaps they will be stubborn about it.
It is funny that you say that Aria is in need of exposure to reach greater heights. I say this because Sona was totally underground. That's pretty much what I liked about it. I am not in a position to say whether the same is true for Aria, but this doesn't factor in my decision. I don't know if you are trying to say that Aria needs to go mainstream or what (that is something that I, as well as many others, would not like).
As for the "Grand" finale, I believe that they followed their recent formula (local talent) until the end. I say end without even knowing for sure if it will open again. Either they had no desire to book international talent, as has been their philosophy lately, or they simply didn't have the means to do so, no one will know. What's odd is that they have been packing Sona with local talent (lower DJ fees) and people say they have financial troubles. If you talk about Sona's heritage being attacked, I can assure you that the people there had a great time regardless of what you may think, which is what Sona has always been about.

Believe me !!
I had a probably the worste club night of my life @ sona
That's why i don't like tha place I would have gone another time if Timo would have actually showed up last year ! But he didn't !
I'm not saying anything against the sona. It completly otherwise I think that sona has done A LOT for Montreal scene. But i do think that they should call it a day. Doind so would keep their legend status, stop when you're at the top ... not when things are going donward.
PLus i do think that sona addict aren't in it for the music so ... they can continue going to Sona to themselves up I truly don't give a about ppl getting in a club and just getting high 'cause it's "in" to say that you're going to that club or that club ! At least that what i saw when i was there. Aria is better on that note, Some say it's a negative pointbut ... Seeing that ppl show up for those big dj's mean something .. it means ppl want to see those big dj's.
I also do think that you're doing the right to step aside. Your time as come but i also think that you should try the other clubs just once to see what the fuss is all about. Just to see what the vibe is in those other clubs !!

Great rant man,
Str8EdgedDrunk (i wish i knew your real name), you have to understand one thing. This is Tranceaddict after all, and these people are trance addicts :) Aria did great efforts to satisfy us and thats why we give them lots of credit. While people were bitching for bringing Tiesto in a packed Sona, the same people loved it when they had Armin/Corsten/etc in a big venue (i.e. Aria) where you had plenty of space to dance. Everyone knows that trance addicts are younger in age compared to house and prog fans. Also, its a reason why they dress differently. Like Stereo is for house and prog heads, Aria is to techno and trance whores. But rest assured, saturdays at Aria are completely different (I was shocked) from Fridays. People dress to impress, very trendy mature audience, completly different crowd from Fridays.
Off course this board seems liked sold to Aria, but they have answered our prayers and brought the talent that we only dreamt off. Some other boards are sold to Stereo, some other to level or redlite (yes those board exist too lol), etc.
Anyways, i'm not gonna tell to come and give a 2nd chance cause it sounds cheezy. But its not impossibe, that you didn't like the club the first time, maybe you'll hate your 2nd time too, who knows? But I want you to know that Aria has a huge fan base for many reasons, and maybe just maybe those reasons are the same that made you fell in love with Sona. |

I totally understand where you are coming from. I also give the club a lot of credit. They created a great spot on the scene for themselves and made a lot of people happy while doing it. I think that it is great that there is a good trance place in MTL these days. When I was talking about the clothes, what I meant was that I noticed (in pics on this site) some guys were dressed kind of square. There's nothing wrong with that (I am a shirt/tie guy the week), but I found it weird to go like that to an after. I thought that might have been the reason why some didn't get in. However, I know the doors can get brutal at Sona.
I think you misunderstood what I was saying about my only night at Aria. I never went to Aria, lol. I was saying that I could have lied about going and not liking it to strenghten my point/argument. I would never judge a club based on just one night (unless it is a crazy night lol). I am also sure that I would enjoy myself, if I were to go to Aria. The thing is that I don't really feel up to it these days. Time to retire, I think, lol. Who knows, maybe one day I will pull a Jordan, unretire, and pass by.
Take care, guy |

I misunderstood you about going to Aria, no Biggy.
At the end, its all about the music and having fun. Maybe one day, Aria will have your favorite dj and you will find the urge to go party for a special occasion or not. Lots of people say they retire, but only to come back stronger than ever :) (some of them are on this board hehe) !!
Take care on your retirment :) and don't abuse viagra ;) haha j/k |

Yeah for me listening to my favorite DJs in the car or at home is good enough for me these days. Maybe that will change someday! |
