remix qualifiers

can someone enlighten me as to what the difference is between 'mix', 'edit', 'dub', 'remix', 'rework' etc ... ?

Mix is the same as a remix where the artist completely redoes the song in his or her fashion, mainly keeping the melody the same, but in their rendition of it.
Edit is something PvD has to be most famous for (besides A class music) The artist takes the song and adds mainly a harder beat or more of a rolling bass line to give it a better/groovier feel.
Dub is known as having no vocals or almost no vocals. If it was strictly no vocals it would be called an instrumental.
Rework is also another name for a remix. Just sounds fancy i guess |

remix - taking a track, pull out some elements u liked, making them togather with ur components, and adding stuff... this is a real new production...
dub - the track without the vocals, usually comes along with a vocal version...
rework - adding a few things for the original while staying with the original song instruments and etc...
mix - most of the times is a remix, but the original meaning is a different arrangement or mix (mixing the instruments...)
edit - taking a song and just cutting it and such, edit is often used for radio... |

i understand it basically the same way...
Mix = Remix a rendition of the track that is bassed off of major melodies in the song
Edit is when the track is shortened say for radio play...you don't want the whole thing just the main part a la radio edit
rework is when a artist changes the song in some way...moving part around...adding a little change a la PVD
dub is without the main vocals |

| Just thought I'd mention that the term "dub" doesn't have to refer to vocal content. A dub has higher frequencies removed -- this typically means vocals or bits of lead melodies, etc. |

You guys are a bit off. Mix is not the same as remix. It should be either this:
Gabriel & Dresden's Unplugged Mix
Or:
Gabriel & Dresden Remix
Notice the usage of mix and remix. If the remix has a name then you put mix, if it has no name then its remix. |

| don't really think there are any rules, i see all terms used randomly, especially mix and remix |
