i have a question: does paul oakenfold have anything to do with requiem for a dream the movie? or is his "zoo york" just a remix of the soundtrack?
what about the trailer of the LOTR: TT? (i believe that version is by ajax projection). any info on that?
are all these related or are they just remixes of the requiem for a dream soundtrack? |

Lord of the Rings trailer simply took the theme from requiem. U won't find it on the LOTR soundtrack (which, btw, is AMAZING). It just fit with the trailer.
I have no idea why Oakenfold called his mix Zoo York, maybe he got around some liscensing or something. ANyways, to add more, there is a remix of Zoo York in a recent set, which i don't understand at all. |

Oakenfold had nothing to do with Requiem, the entire soundtrack was created by Clint Mansell and the Kronos Quartet. |

It's not Zoo York on the Two Towers trailer, it's just an edited version of the original Requiem for a Dream theme track, not sure which version though, the soundtrack has about 4 versions of each song (1 for each season or so...)
D/L a few (or just buy the soundtrack, it's quality stuff) and I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. 'Marion Barfs' is probably the best version of the theme on that soundtrack for me, but your experience might vary. |

Actually, this was discussed over many times here.. A quick research points out that Oakey co-wrote the theme with Mansell, but left uncredited. Hence he released his own version. :p
I have also heard (but cannot confirm this) that Mansell, Arafonski, and Oak are all good friends... :( |

I think the original samples for this theme was written before clint and before Requiem. Here's the credits for Oakenfolds Zoo York.
Track 5: Written, produced & mixed by Oakenfold & Gray. Mute Song Ltd. (BMI) / Universal Music Publishing (UK) Ltd (ASCAP). Contains a sample written by Sagoo, Indivar & Kalyanji, licensed courtesy of Universal Music Publishing (UK) Ltd. Programmed & engineered by Andy Gray. Assistant engineer: Ed Chadwick. Recorded at Real Noize. "Quarbani Quarbani" by Bally Sagoo and Ishq Records used courtesy of Sony Music Entertainment (UK) Ltd.
Oakenfold named the track Zoo York because he sais New York is like a Zoo with all the things going on at once. Therefor naming it Zoo York and thus adding the soundtrack to go with it. Zoo York was featured on Bunnka, and all songs from Bunnka have been remixed as dance tracks and Zoo York being one of them.

The Requiem theme wasn't used anywhere in the movie itself, it was just used on the trailers that were in theatres about a month or two before the film was released.
As much as I like the theme I was extremely confused with the usage when I originally saw/heard the trailer...anyone who's seen Requiem is going to stop thinking about the Two Towers and start thinking about Requiem when they hear that music, it's just too closely identified with the film to be used for anything else IMHO. |
