like, in a perfect experiment, i would like to find a park somewhere that is in a big city (if its in the suburbs it wouldnt really work because there wouldnt be a steady stream of people to effect.)
in this experiment, i and a couple other djs would get a folding table, decks and a mixer, some (preferably loud) portable stereo, and find an outlet in the park to plug it all into. (there usually are a few in parks for maintenence purposes) me and any other djs would take turns spinning, and the djs not actully spinning would be dancing/glowsticking/etc by the speakers...
i would like to see what response it would get from the general public...would there be random people that start to dance too? would there be other djs showing up asking to spin?
what do you think about something like this? are there any tranceaddicts in or around chicago(or in any other city) that would be willing to try this?

ok, after some positive response to this, especially from a few chicago TAs, does anyone actully wanna help do this? but instead of the whole djing thing, i guess all TAs would be welcome, and instead of mixing the whole time, if people were to bring cds, mini-discs, mp3 players, etc it'd be ok too, because a converter can be used to transfer the headphone output to an RCA, which could be plugged into the back of the mixer.
So...
who? when? where? What gear brought by who? |

| good idea but i dont think the people in Chicago would take too good to this...especially cops...rap blastin @ 3AM is fine, but i bet trance/prog/house (u kno..."techno" as called here) would make people call the cops in no time...lol...jus my 2 cents...but i'd love to see this anyway:D:D:D:D |

Yeah, your idea sounds good, and there are plenty of spots in Grant Park.... especially the 2 foot high stage and larage wooden "dance floor" area right in the park around 600 S. Michigan.... but, in reality... the cops will be there before you even drop one record down.
Besides, if any of you have ever spun outdoors before, you need some kind of canopy or wind shield because even light winds can blow the needles off the record..... i've had entire records blown off the table, slip mats and all.... it truly sucks when working outdoors.
Personally, I am all for it, but you know just as well as I do... we're not the first to have thought of this idea.... so , it will never fly in Chicago, or anywhere in this country.
try somewhere in Canada or Mexico where DJs arent as hated and stereotyped. |

| youd probably get a few dirty looks...youd get some ppl tossing you change...youd have a few ppl around you bobbing their head...and then the cops would show up. but id like to see how this would turn out. |

kinda how some other big dance event got started huh?
the only other thing you need is a van and a permit to hold a 'parade' :D |

| I've wanted to do this. I'm sure if you get a permit for it, it'd be ok. I mean, there are people playing keyboards on the street, and people playing music on corners, right? What difference does it make if it's a turntable? |

Acid John - awesome idea.
I recently just came back from Melbourne, Australia and this stuff goes on all the time. My friends have convinced me to possibly set something like this up myself - although I don't know anything about spinning nor have any friends into it as well.
If you are still interested in trying this out - let me know - and I'll be available to help ya out... |

Would this be any different than someone pounding on a pail, or the saxophone player outside Wrigley, or US Cellular?
I'd be interested to see what happens if anyone tries this. |
