| Soley based on mixing skills. I anticipate ppl voting for their fav DJ...don't. I don't care for his track selection but Digweed's mixing skills are unparalled. Absolutely flawless & subtle. I LOVE PVD & Tiesto but they don't stand a chance to Diggers. |

Nor do Ferry Corsten & Armin van Buuren...
like John Acquaviva (a greatly skilled techno dj from Canada) said in an interview: good producers can't be good dj's and good dj's can't be good producers. You just can't focus on both professions, you have to choose.
John Acquaviva is one of the few "big" dj's who managed to survive in the scene without producing any tracks.... he only focusses on his dj-skilz. |

cant say the choices are too good, out of them i spose id have to say digweed, as he organises his sets around the current 'key' the tracks are in and blends them all together to sound like one whole track. as far as mixing goes you cant go past the likes of carl cox and joey beltram (who plays with 3 decks and a 909 live) - but thats techno and there are plenty of others worth mentioning. as far as trance/progressive goes the only DJ that i have found to be able to seamlessly blend in 2&3 tracks together at a time without anyone knowing (unless theyve heard the seperate tracks before) is paul oakenfold. if you dont follow what i mean - listen to his radio 1 sets from ibiza and miami as an example (think it was in '99). im not sure what he's been doing lately but i feel he's gone downhill since then.
yes its true paul van dyk often has 3 decks in front of him, but as you can see (and hear) in the mayday mpeg, it is just for show most of the time and hes doesnt actually use them all. one set i have heard where he does use 3 is at the gallery, turnmills - sounds quite messy and thats simply just to match the energy of the hyped up crowd at the time but we're talking about the quality of mixing here... |

| I chose trance DJ's cause this is a trance forum..& these are the most popular DJs on the board. Carl Cox is amazing...coined the 3 deck wizard but Digweed set's are seamless. |

I don't vote.. cause I think you can't compare Dj's from different styles.
I'm not a dj.. but mixing progressive or "normal uplifting" trance or techno isn't that quite different ? |

| PVD is my fave mixer, nuff said but i've heard digweed is amazing, i've just never seen him live to know how good he is. So i'll stick with PVD for now. |

Mixing is mixing. For instance: Tiesto plays a record, mixes for 20 seconds, then plays the track. Digweed plays a record...teases w/another record, then fully drops it like 8 mins lata. Some of the trance DJ's are very obvious. Digweed's sets u don't even know where the track begins or finishes..it sounds like 1 long song. |

excellent topic twilo...
tough disision...and it does really play on what you like the best depending on someones style...
i soooooooo love it when a dj teases ya with a track for a bit then drops it like diggers does...that really gets me goin...and the anticipation leads me to a high...one of the best things i love so much about trance:) |

If you eva saw the Dave Clark video swamper put on the site, you would have seen that he has great skill mixing and trixing, don´t like the sets though.
I like Tiësto, Mauro Picotto and PvD most

my favorite is PVD but i vote for Other.
never seen digweed - people say its good.
i know Carl Cox is very good - "hardest working DJ".
i think this poll must contain more names. |

I agree that you would have to have the DJs play the same style of music ... Digweed doesn't quite belong in this list, with all the other DJs playing melodic trance while Diggers plays deep progressive. From my experience it is a lot easier to do long layered mixes with progressive because it is bassline-heavy and it doesn't emphasize melody as much as other styles of trance. This makes it a lot easier to do corrections while in the mix, and also makes the tracks blend into each other practically by themselves.
But I would have to agree, Digweed's mixing is very tight most of the time. |
