1. i believe the search function is disabled during a SPECIFIC period of time when web traffic is high. read the quotes, it clearly does not state that the search is broken and that it is merely disabled at a certain time frame, possibly to avoid server overloads or whatever.
2. this has been an on going issue for several days. i'd left it thinking it might be fixed but its still not. that is the reason why i am bringing this to his attention in case he didn't know already.
3. so maybe instead of telling me to be patient, which i already have shown, you might want to post something more useful/insightful to my question. |

Well i have noticed that the search function is disabled at aperently random times, well i cant check it during 0000-0800 gmt as imm sleeping.
the search slows down the forums loads for some reason swamper explained somewhere else, mainly due to the bandwith limitations od ide harddisks. that message could well be a predefined message that swamper put up as trafic started to rise, and perhaps the trafic didnt fall as expected so teh search stays disabled.

| if we want a better search-function we should all donate a couple of dollars which can be invested in a new server(s) running on SCSI harddisks |

before swamper gets the hdds, i have an idea of how to help remedy this:
how about if search function was disabled if a certain threshold of total users on the board was exceeded. for example, right now there are less than 200 members on the board. it's comparatively low to peak times, when it get over 300. what about if the script was automatically turning the search function off if there were, say, more than 250 members on the board? (once again, i can help with php and mysql if it's needed:))
and yeah, the donations are a good thing! i would definitely donate something! |

| I think swamper was thinking of putting the search on another server which would speed up the server the forum is on massively :D |
