I'm using FL3.56, and for almost all of my trax I use a compressor on the master fx channel to "master" the track for when I export to mp3. I usually master it again in Sound Forge, but I really want to know.... what are the best settings for a compressor where I have it?
I tend to use the presets because I'm not 100% sure what each knob does in the compressor. PLZ HELP! thnx.

There isn't such a thing as a "compressing preset that works for every song", compressors are very neat things. Only thing you could do is try, over and over again and do what sounds best. Reading articles on the internet and following tips from the authors will also help you further.

Here's a good overview of very good articles: http://www.studiocovers.com/articles3.htm (compression)
http://www.studiocovers.com/articles9.htm (mastering)

Succes!

Yeah; I'm tryin ma best to find out what the hell compressors do; I really thought that they had no value, but after making a few CD's, and listenin to it in my car, I realize, you need to use Compressors A LOT in music like Trance/Techno/Prog, etc. With so many instruments, and complexity issues, there's so much going on, that some instruments really shroud others. Compressing is required to get a nice, crisp professional sound. That goes with EQing too. -Mental
