Aria [MTL] is great!

So I go to Montreal for work (for about 3 days) every 2 weeks or so..
Well, I was lucky enough to be in MTL for both Friday and Saturday night and went to Aria both nights - and all I can say is WOW!!
No headlier DJ, no special event (both nights) - but the vibe was like Viva. Plus the awesome lights and meyer sound system are great. The cover wasn't insane - and they sell Red Bull (big ++++).
The upstairs (hip-hop both nights) was a little weak (other than the botty shakin') but the downstairs techno was awesome.
Admitedly the crowd was a little younger than I'm used to (probably because of the lax Quebec liquor laws). The average age was probably 20 or so (no complaints! lol).
I've been to Viva before, but never on a non-headlier night and all I can say is that if I lived in MTL I'd be at Viva every week. |

One thing that I've noticed about Montreal local dj's is that most of them are playing techno, comparing to Toronto dj's who are playing
more progressive

It always seems to be a pretty loose obvervance of the code.
Aria doesn't open until 1AM - liquor isn't sold after 3AM.
The only time I've gone to Aria has been after 3AM. They didn't check ID, and they were letting in some people who were at least 4 to 5 years yonger than me (18,19 - which is legal in Quebec).
I guess my answer is I'm not completely sure. The club had a 'younger' feel to it, but with the 18-age drinking laws and the fact that after 3am they don't sell booze the rules may change... |

Edit: Okay I posted something stupid lol... but anyway... liquor until 3 AM is good. I hate the friggin' Ontario "Last call!" |

aria is 18+ and if you look old enough ;)
no liquors at aria (alcohol). Later in the summer a 3rd room with liquor should open.
yeah prog isn't the thing at Aria, we're more in techno, tech house, funky house... |

..that's y i love montreal and their scene a lot more than this scene here.. /tekkno scene/ imo |

Dood-man!
I had an amazing time @ Aria - even with the house DJs... What a great club. I wish we had something like that (with the same schedule as far as being open [consistant]) in Toronto.
Next time I'm in MTL we should hook up for some Schwartz's deli! :) |

I was there too but maybe for 30 mins... I was so tired I just bailed. At Aria fridays and saturdays are so different...
Fridays: Techno/Trance/Prog, younger more energitic crowd!
Saturdays: House/Tech house/all other flavours of House. Older, jet-set-dress-to-impress-crowd... the crowd is so different from one night to other, you hardly believe its the same club. Also HipHop room is packed on Fridays. But since that Sona just closed, Saturdays should be more packed too...
Aria just got a new monthly resident, DJ Dan. Another HUGE house resident should be added to our roster soon. We are also working on big trance residents;););) |
