How ed up is this??? Car accident. A woman was left paralyzed from the waist down. Her co-worker who was in another car got out and pulled her to safety, afraid she might burn in the fire. Now she got permission from the CA supreme court to sue her co-worker because "the care she received was not medical"... unbelievable! She is trying to blame her condition on this lady because she "pulled her like a rag doll" out of the car. ing bitch.
quote:
The California Supreme Court ruled Thursday that a young woman who pulled a co-worker from a crashed vehicle isn't immune from civil liability because the care she rendered wasn't medical.
The divided high court appeared to signal that rescue efforts are the responsibility of trained professionals. It was also thought to be the first ruling by the court that someone who intervened in an accident in good faith could be sued.
Lisa Torti of Northridge allegedly worsened the injuries suffered by Alexandra Van Horn by yanking her "like a rag doll" from the wrecked car on Topanga Canyon Boulevard.
Torti now faces possible liability for injuries suffered by Van Horn, a fellow department store cosmetician who was rendered a paraplegic in the accident that ended a night of Halloween revelry in 2004.
If that car had caught fire and exploded and Torti had done nothing to rescue her friend she would have died, and her family would probably have sued her for that.
The court has sent a signal to the people of California: don't get involved. If someone's drowning, don’t jump in the lake and save them. If someone's trapped in a car that's about to explode, sit there and watch the show. Just make a phone call, and who cares that it might be several minutes before an EMS team can make it to the scene? If you sit on your hands, no one can sue you for all you're worth.
That is pretty disgusting. Sadly things like this don't suprise me at all anymore.

Yup. Pretty common knowledge here. Just keep moving because you never know who will try to blame someone just trying to help. Sad really.

by the way you can just do what people here in baltimore do:
BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―Many are outraged over a video showing two girls laughing as a customer at a carry-out restaurant is robbed at gunpoint by two males.
A man is robbed and shot in the middle of a Baltimore carry-out restaurant.
The whole thing was caught on video, but it's what two witnesses are doing that is causing outrage.
Dennis Edwards reports prosecutors are charging both male teenagers as adults in the brutal robbery and shooting where witnesses are seen laughing in the background.
YouTube video from the Chinese Cuisine security camera captured a disturbing robbery and assault in the 2700-block of Harford Rd.
It happened on an August night. One suspect held a gun to the victim's head. The second charged in.
The victim was shot twice in the knee. In the background, two teenaged girls laughed and giggled at the worsening attack.
"But overall, it really stresses the fact that we really need to provide our young people and families with mental health services," said Mayor Sheila Dixon.
Dixon openly questioned the sanity of suspects involved in the robbery. Prosecutors say both teens were on probation for prior violations.
Prosecutors say the young girls left at the same time as the suspects, but there's no indication they were together.
The victim was left struggling on the floor when restaurant employees refused his plea for help. Prosecutors say they're outraged no one came to the man's rescue.
"I was disturbed. I laid it out. The Criminal Coordinating Justice Council is gonna look at a number of issues as it relates to this factor," said Dixon.
Defense attorneys want both suspects tried as juveniles. The victim is in physical therapy having trouble bending his knees and walking.
