what to do about harsh promoters...

Ok so we know this promoter who has hooked us up with gigs before, all of them non-paying for local rave things.
Now he is hooking us up with a much bigger gig (going to play at a club the same night a top 20 dj at a club is playing, but in a different section-)
But he is really treating us like . He doesn't treat us that way directly, but everything he does. And I say 'we' because I dj with a friend.
First of all we're playing for free because we're still trying to get the name out and stuff and aren't that big, but still, we're doing him a favor. Second, he's given us tickets to sell for the event- tickets just went on sale a week ago and he's telling us like 'you guys have to sell the 20 tickets you have by THIS wednesday' when the event is still a five weeks away. We're selling tickets for him, not getting offered any complimentary tickets, and playing for free.
Not only this but he's telling us he just booked another dj in the room we're playing because he's sold 75 tickets (which I know is total bull - he hasn't advertised the event once. Me and my friend have been advertising the event like CRAZY and so far we only have like 10 sales. We're still djing but I don't know what the promoter was trying to get at with that, just lying, trying to get us to tell more tickets in competition?
I think it's bull..
But I don't know what to do because honestly this guy has hooked us up with a lot of gigs that help us get the name out. I just started realizing how much he takes advantage of us though.. What would you guys do in my position?
thanks. |

Do the show and just play Steve Angello-Knas on repeat for the entire set. |

Stop DJing if you're uncomfortable with the reality that promoters are the scum of the earth. |

Listen, kid! You have till this Wednesday to sell those tickets and guess what! That IS your ing compensation. I would have no idea if you scalped them, unless you're ing stupid and if you want freebies, buy them yourself. Your is dime-a-dozen.
That's dime a in' dozen, wise-ass, and I've got twenty in line who are quite a bit better for less. I've been nice, up to this point, but if I find like this on the internet, again, I'll make sure you can't even land a gig in your bedroom! |

You're ing retarded if you continue to play for that promoter. It's not your job to sell tickets, and if you're not getting paid in cash then you should at least be getting some guest list spots and/or some drink tickets. My advice would be to stop dealing with the guy. Move on, find another promoter. |
