Racism in these forums

Some threads about racism were created lately, and though we are supposed to be free and say whatever we want in these forums, I think there are limits. (No I'm not talking just about "Racism anyone?").
We're a multicultural society here and that's one of the reasons our forums are full of interesting opinions and points of view.
Judging people because of their skin colour or ethnic background is a primitive behaviour of those who are affraid (or just don't accept) what is different. This should not be tolerated here, because this trance community is based on union and respect, and such attitude is against it.
Therefore, I warmly ask all those who are racist or have ANY kind of prejudice (which includes homophobia) to think about it and, if possible, keep it away from our forums. We won't have any prejudice against these people, otherwise we would be doing the same thing, however, racism should not be welcome here.

I'm with you.....racism should not be tolerated anywhere....and people who use it....should stop and wake up!...personally I'm sick of it and this will lead to a crackdown. |

i agree with your beliefs on racism is bad, however a discussion (when kept within the confines of outright bigotry) CAN be had in a civilized manner discussing racism problems around the world - as long as no racist remarks are made in the thread...
however i wouldn't put it past some genius to start posting words just to cause a dispute in here...

i think of TA as one of the most accepting, diverse communities im a part of - even if because of trance, and only via the internet. we dont represent every area in the world, but many places that get overlooked - i can practice/annoy the Swedes with my language skills, and i honestly would have never known so many people from Holland.
i think there has been some discussion of racism...but i dont think it means we are being racist, or not respecting everyone here. there is some words exchanged, but we are all logical and knowlegable to know whats dangerous and not| |

Maybe I over-reacted, but I guess that this is something serious, that's why I started this new thread in the first place :)

i agree with u totally maaz,
but people should also know, there are ofcourse gonna be people who are racist etc. on these sites, if u are gonna be creating a discussion somewhere along the lines of racism or other topics similar where there will be 2 very different oppinions, expect to be flamed by ignorant people, it would be wiser IMO, if discussions like these best be left out, coz one way or another, there will never be a civilized discussion about racism and certain other subjects, some people are racist, maybe u can help it. maybe u can't |

Well sure I'd rather people not make racist remarks. But it's just a forum, there's no need to get sensitive about other people's opinions. If you are really offended by someone, just add them to your ignore list. That's what its for.
It would be nice if everyone had politically correct opinions, but asking people not to express themselves merely because the vast majority arbitrarily finds their opinion "offensive" is, in my opinion, not reasonable, especially considering you have other options for avoiding seeing their messages.
As a result, while I sympathize with your cause, I do not see the situation as being severe enough to warrant change.
Cheers,

Couldn't of put it better mate, If you take the irc channel for example, theres like loads from the uk, rob in holland, andy from canada, f0x from usa, alex in italy, miki in japan, and also lots of asian descents in people too (chinese mainly) and I just think it's so stupid to judge sum1 by where they're from, cos if u do u'll never get to know the person who they are and how cool they can be |

what ya really gotta laugh at is this:
Say there is people who are racist on this board, they have probably been replying to other people and saying "Cheers Bro, YOU ROCK!!". Well something along the lines of that, maybe even speaking to them on MSN, ICQ or whatever.
For all they know that person there are speaking to could be from a group of people that they are racist towards.
Well that thought makes me laugh anyway. |

I agree completely. It's a shame that some people cannot handle discussing sensitive subjects such as this without resorting to flames, but I think that as a part of a free world this forum should not be pre-moderated on certain topics. This would be hypocritical.
On another note, I really think it is counterproductive to silence subjects such as racism. If you keep refusing to dabate people with extremist views, they will, in my experience, stick even tighter and fanatically to those views, whereas talking openly about things often helps clarify the basic issues behind the apathy. E.g. many "racists" are really not upset about some race, but feels cheated by society and looks for scapegoats.
Furthermore, if you are absolutely sure that it is wrong to be a racist, for example, then you ought to use your belief for helping others feel the same.
Anyway, that was my input. |
