Basically, which big name international DJ's have influenced the sound of the locals?

For me, everytime I'm on beatport, I feel like Dubfire is a Toronto local when I hear his chart. I can just hear the sound of the gallery, FW, TiL etc all over the tracks. I'm pretty sure this is related with how many times he's been in Toronto the last couple of years so it's not a big shock to me (together with the fact that he's a big Carlo Lio fan). I'd find it quite sad if local's put effort into immitating these guys since they have the highest % chance of playing along side one of them when they come to town so if any residents want to add some insight into this, would be productive to the cause. Real shame that they'd play the same set and offer little to no variety for the crowd regardless of what style it is.

Unfortunately, there are no Trance DJ's that consistantly play local venues enough to make a judgement on except if you include the 2-3 remixed classics that Mark Oliver plays here and there.

Anyways, discuss.

Sorry to leave any confusion.

To reframe this for you, what I am trying to say is that if say *insert big name DJ* is headlining and the local warming up for him immitates or is highly influenced by this DJ's sound, then chances are that there will be little to no variety (as essentially both headliner/opener are on course to play the same set).

it's been like that for several years..hence why seeing an international dj is rarely a treat for a different sound anymore. it's probably more than just an influence thing but a demand for consistency in in sound by promoters? (I could be absolutely wrong but it's a guess)

well ur not going to have say jayforce or robb g opening for dubfire..

Carlo only plays Gallery once a month. and IMO none of the other DJs that rotate through Gallery sound like Carlo or dubire.

Or maybe the internationals play to the locals' taste/style? Especially if they come here often, like Lawler, then they know what gets the TO crowds moving/what they want to hear.

i was thinking the same thing too.
sure, the international djs have their own sound but they are always adjusting their sound to suit the crowd they are playing for. i dont think it is fair to say anyone imitates others. djs and producers find the sound that they like and thats how they play. its just that toronto tends to prefer only a couple types of "sounds" so thats why so many of our djs play that way to satisfy our population.
