Question Dimple dot question

I read on a site about how the dimple dots and red light is "a visual indication of whether your decks are screwed or not. If, when the pitch control is set to 0, the dots continue to move, then it means that your deck isn't turning at exactly 33 or 45rpm."

Do they mean all the dots? there are 4 for me ... one small, one big, followed by two more small......

I notice that only my big dot stays stationary...should I be scared?

There is a little legend for what each dot represents by the power on switch. Starting from the top of the plater you have the following:
2 small dots then 1 big dot followed by another small dot.
The top most row should remain stationary when you're at +6 pitch as indicated by the legend. The big dots should remain stationary when you're at 0 pitch. From what you've stated, your turntables are fine =)

Thanks didn't even think of looking it up in the manual.....

just for reference on SL-1200M3d
First small dot = +6%
Second small dot = +3.3%
Big dot = 0
Last small dot = -3.3%

I've seen the row of big dots moving at a crazy pace in my local record store in QUARTZ.. and those are Techs!

Great Outdoors, I've seen such Techs also in shops or renting companies, and let me tell you it's pretty difficult to mess up Techs that much.
But then you should look at how people treat the decks also. You would think that every dj respects the mighty SL, let alone any other dj equipment. But sometimes I'm surprised by how people deal with equipment that is not theirs... I mean, a little care would be the least you can expect, but it's not their equipment, so why bother.
Last time I was in the record shop, I saw a guy that tapped the ashes of his cigarette on the pitch slider! For god's sake, it's not an ashtray.

I'm from the opinion that any equipment I spin on, even if it's not mine (borrowed or rented) deserves to be cared of...

I just got my techs a few weeks ago, and they arent calibrated properly
the 0 is good, the +/- 3.33 is good, but when it gets to +6, its not @ +6 the dots stop moving when the slider is about 7.25, so I need to get em calibrated...

You can calibrate them yourself. It's just a matter of tweaking a screw under the plastic grid under the platter.

There are a few SL sites out there that tell you exactly how. Can't remember the URL's at the moment sorry!

Well, I guess i'm just a tinkerer... but I had no fears opening up my technisc.. I fooled around with the pitch and the brakes... hehe, got the brake to stop the platter really hard, making the record spin backwards... then put it back to normal... tried to see how big my pitch range can get... etc... then i put it back together.

still works perfect.
