the future of our music

what do you think will our music be like in 5 years ? will it be harder or softer ?
Will natural instruments take more place or will awesome heavy synthesizer create new worlds ?

Will 3D sound and new high quality fx ( surround like in cinemas ) create new sound adventures in the clubs ?

That is a very hard thing to predict. I HOPE, however, that it will just get better hehe. Trance hasn't been so great lately, and I hope it starts to pick up again.

Personally, I see the music taking a direction to the harder side. When rock 'n roll first got groovin', it was all that soft stuff... Now we have our Metallica's and other harder rock groups. The same, I believe will slowly start to happen for dance/electronica music.

Sound quality will catch up

I think Trance will continue the way it is, but once we start to see Super Audio CD's, DVD audio and AC3 audio become mainstream and replace regular audio CD's, Trance will be taken to the next level because music producers will be able to incorporate surround sound and very high sound quality which will go hand in hand with Trance since it's all electronically produced.

I have to disagree. Although being somewhat new into trance, I've been seeing a progressive shift into, well, progressive trance. I think uplifting trance with melodic synths will always be around, but the masses are slowly moving towards progressive trance/house/breakbeats etc. But then again this might only be the natural progression of TAs

Hmmmm, said "progressive" 4 times there

thats an unhealthy habit you have there - id see your local doctor

seriously - i see the sub-genre divides growing bigger and certain unique sounds (hard trance/tech trance/progressive) becoming more and more developed into their own widespread genre.

With respect I disagree. Sound engineers have their job cut out for them as it is sorting our good enough sound quality in decent clubs. This is hard enough. Creating a 3D surround sound system for a club, in my view is impossible. You have certain pays off on a club system. The more and more people in the crowd the more of a system you need with has enough meat to reach them, for this you need to pay off sound quality. You just wouldn’t be able to have a sound system that incorporated a fully 3D system and still managed to get the whole “picture” of sound to the whole crowd. Yes all every good and fun at home but not in a club. We mustn’t forget, Trance is designed as club music.

As of sound quality in general, I think there will be a shifts in the formats DJ’s use, but overall we won’t se a quantum leap in sound quality. The reason being for the same as no 3D sound systems. For anything cool you’d get you’d have to sacrifice a dozen other more practical things. Any gain in quality in the sound recordings would be lost as the heavy ended club system thumps it out. What’s the point of having a super sampling DVD playing a tune or regular CD when in the middle of the club all you can hear is Thud Thud Thud?

What I think we will be seeing in the future is more DJ’s incorporating live elements into their sets. Playing live alongside mixing etc.
