Hey I'm sure all of you got some of these records, ones that even slightly touched slip away as if there was oil underneath them. I'm not talking slipping away from your fingers, but actually having NO grip at all on the base itself (on that little 'slip' mat). I tried scrubbing the B-side on a piece of cloth, but I imagine that's not good for the vinyl, and plus it doesn't help at all. I have some really good records that have this major flaw, and makes it rather hard to use them because I love to touch my records a lot while mixing, and here if I touch it the entire tempo/mix is fucked.

Is there some sort of solution for this ?

Could be your records are warped, and are spinning more on the label than on the actual vinyl (so there's only paper touching your slipmats, and no vinyl)

Had this a few times, now I always double-check records before I buy (sadly, online buying does not provide an anti-warped record feature yet, but chances are really low anyway)

some of mine do it- you get to know which ones and how to touch them without them flying forward 2 bars.

yep, that's exactly what i was going to say. an easy test to see if it's warped is to flip the record over and see if the other side moves as easily.

yeah of course practice, it's ok it works, but I'm not havin' any fun with those type of records, one minor error and it seems as if you spinned it back and fucked up your mix So basically there's nothing to fix this ? damn damn >_<

Try tightening up the spindle by putting some tape or something in the hole of the record ?

make your corrections only using the pitch and cue your record by only touching the label and you'll be able to mix that record just fine.

now, i'm going to give you a tip to fixing warped vinyls that i probably shouldn't. you will destroy your vinyls if you don't do this just right so if you fuck it up don't blame me, i warned you. all you need to two pieces of thick glass and an oven. set the over to the lowest temp, usually about 250. place the warped vinyl between the pieces of glass. when the oven is heated, place the glass and vinyl in the oven for about 5 minutes. after the 5 minutes is up *very carefully* remove the glass and vinyl from the oven. remove it all together still sandwiched. do not under any circumstances lift the top piece of the glass off and absolutely do not slide the pieces of glass at all. even a little lateral movement will destroy the vinyl as it's still hot and soft. let the glass and vinyl completely cool to room temp before remove the top piece of glass. i would say let it sit at least 20 minutes but it must be room temp. then you can remove the vinyl and it shouldn't be warped. if it is then do the whole procedure over again adding a couple of minutes each time you have to repeat until the vinyl is no longer warped. some vinyl is thicker then others so it will take longer in the oven. i've had pieces in the over for 10 minutes before to un-warp them. i've had a 90% success rate with this technique. the only time i ruined a piece is because i accidentally slide the top piece of glass and it warped the vinyl into and oval shape. if you try this be ultra careful. good luck.

nope, didn't eat it. i just saved it and tossed it out to the crowd during a headline spot. i put a note in it that said "remember kids, heat and vinyl don't mix". the only time i use this is when i end up with a piece that's so warped it's nearly impossible to play. it does work, you just have to be very very very careful. besides, if the vinyl is so warped you can't even play it, then if you fuck it up even more, well, you couldn't play it to begin with so you're not really losing anything. i have however brought a more then a few pieces of warped vinyl back to life with this technique. they're perfectly flat now. cheers.
