this may be a little out of line but...

can someone create a sticky thread devoted to DJ terminology with definitions and examples? because the thread below me is the 10000000000000000 thread that asks, "what's a rotary mixer?"

and it would also be great if there could be another sticky thread devoted to different specs on cdj's and tt's, such as...

-pitch increments for whatever cdj (i.e. %.05, %.02, etc)
-wow and flutter for whatever TT
-direct drive or not
-TA's own experiences with different equipment

and us TADJ's can just add more and more info so it becomes one huge thread of important info on equipment without the reposts a billion times.

seriously, on a daily basis there is at least one "what's so great about rotary mixers?" thread and at least one "which cdj should i buy between xxxx and xxxx?" thread (even though i've been known to make a few myself)

who here is man enough to start such a thread? chockfull of wonderful DJ hardware goodness?

in fact, i'll start off with just some info off the top of my head.

a ROTARY MIXER is a mixer that has knobs instead of volume sliders for the channels. Many believe that rotary mixers are better because it allows the dj more control.

On the Denon DNS-5000 the pitch increment can be switched between:

4% = 0.02 (Range: +4 to -4)
10% = 0.10 (Range: +10 to -10)
16% = 0.10 (Range: +16 to -16)
24% = 0.10 (Range: +24 to -24)
50% = 0.50 (Range: +50 to -50)
100% = 1.00 (Range: +100 to -100)

Turntable 101

In today's posting of turntable 101 we will list several key factors in djing and equipment:

-Don't buy belt driven turntables
-Technics are industry standard
-Both Numark and Stanton provide key correction on select turntable models (unfortunately this technology has yet to be perfected on the turntable)
-Straight arm turntables provide greater skip resistance and s-shaped tone-arms provide higher sound quality

Today we will look at the Stanton Str8-150

The STR8-150 offers durable construction designed to minimize feedback, an industry-leading torque motor - up to 4.5 Kgf-cm, and an ultra-stable platter and tone arm. Features include: Key Correction, Reverse, up to 50% pitch adjustment, and S/PDIF digital outputs (courtesy of music123)

Wow, very nice idea! TA DJ Hardware thread...alot of the overclocking forums that I go to have alot of stickies like these.

Well lets see:

mixer wise, stay clear of the Behringer djx 700 at all cost.

Question though: what is the increment on the CDJ 700S (I have one thats why )

Numark TT200

I own a pair of these, it's a great starter deck for the DJ on a budget.

- direct drive, torque: 1.7kg/cm
- replaceable lights, crossfaders, and straight/s-shaped tonearms
- 33,45,78 RPM with reverse function
- "quartz" button that snaps the vinyl back to %0

my only gripes with these decks is that the pitch fader is EXTREMELY sensitive. it takes a long time to get used to how the fader works. other than that, it's an excellent deck for the money.

I use a Behringer DJX700 and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. I don't have the cash to buy a top of the line mixer, so for $200 (Canadian currency) it works nicely. Mabye once I get the chance to use a newer or industry standard mixer i'll see why people bash Behringer so much.
