I just moved from Atlanta to LA recently, so here's a newbie's perspective on the city:
The Good:
1. Weather. It's always nice. "Hot" isn't hot, and "Cold" isn't cold.
2. Healthy food is everywhere, it makes it easy to eat right.
3. An abundance of beautiful women.
4. Proximity to San Diego, Vegas, and San Fran makes for awesome travel options.
5. Hollywood. If you want to work in film or TV, this is the place to be.
6. The beach.
7. Short distance to any outdoor activity you could possibly want.
8. Huge EDM scene. More trance-heavy than NYC I think, but there's lots of house, too.
9. If you love cars, this is a cool place, even if the state doesn't want it to be.
10. The homeless people aren't aggressive here. They're not crackheads, they're just mentally off. Most of the time they leave you alone, and if they do ask you for something, it's usually just food.
The Bad:
1. Last call is at 1:30am. (wtf, right?)
2. The traffic. Everybody knows that, though.
3. Parking is a pain in the ass, but you -need- a car to get around. Go figure.
4. Neighborhoods are divided by race more than most cities I've been to. White people live in one place, hispanic people in another, black people in another, etc. It's odd for a place that bills itself as being so progressive.
5. Infrastructure. Most of the city was built in the 50s, 60s and 70s, and it shows. It's not aging well. A lot of LA is very ugly. Charming in a weird way, but ugly. Lots of cool old neon signs, though.
6. There are more whiners and complainers here than most other places, but they can be ignored.
7. People drive WAY too slow. Part of that is because there are a lot of old people.
8. They care about the NBA here. The rest of the country knows it's a joke, but they haven't quite gotten the message yet. :-P
All in all, I love it here. It's VERY different from New York, though. In fact, it's damn near the opposite.

Put your hands up for LA, I love this city!!!!!
There are many parties, don't worry about that. Worry about our laid back attitudes. If you are the aggressive NY type, you won't wanna live here and neither do we want you living here. |
Don't be scared!

In a few days...? What dates will you be here? Next Friday is Incognito @ King King, for tech house. Here is the event thread for that: http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...&forumid=107&s=
Then there is some Varsity All Star techno party at The Custom Hotel on Sunday afternoon. Some TA's from SF are driving all the way out here for it, so I'm assuming it's going to be good. |
I get in on sept 20th, so that Incognito party is out of the question for me. I'll make the next one for sure!

As much as I love NYC, I need a change though. I'm looking forward to a new city and meeting a ton of new people.
