looks like you did the right thing, got technics, and skimped on the cans and mixer, those are expendable.

What records you got?

and, just a little tip, records will always feel stale after a while, it starts to become an incurable addiction, especially when you are used to having thousands of mp3s at your fingertips!

I'm getting kinda bored with my 50 or so records already been mixing on decks for.. about 6 months now. the other day, i plugged my mixer into my computer with VTT and did some mixing and had so much fun!

I wish i could afford to buy as much vinyl as i DL mp3s.

Here's what I started with:

Amen vs. Rachel McFarlane - Lover
DJ Mishka - Pleasure Me
Rachael Starr - Remember
Not Ferris - Reflection
CJ Bolland - Mantra Remixes

I've only visited one of the two local vinyl stores so far, but I already realize that I'll have to special order in a bunch of stuff. The above choices were songs that stuck out somewhat for me, but they weren't the brightest choices for starting out. The DJ Mishka track (while very cool) is 150 BPM at zero pitch roughly, and the CJ Bolland one is house (maybe 130 bpm, if not slower, haven't bothered to figure it out).

The Rachel McFarlane track reminds me soooo much of an "old school" trance anthem, but unfortunately I can't quite place it (one of those tracks that rips off another one, but with a couple note difference on melody).

Not sure if I'm going to continue doing digital mixes, will probably focus my time exclusively on vinyl. Had to make the jump, as I want to play out at some point.

anyway, as far as the vinyl Vs MP3 thing, i love my vinyl, and i got my decks so i could play out as well. But, mp3s are a great way to DJ, and i will never stop using them either.

I want to get final scratch, but for now, just VTT and a mixer do me just fine. then i can practice and have fun at home without wearing out my precious vinyls.

Don't worry, I didn't recognize any of them either. Just listened to a stack of vinyl, and picked out a few that sounded decent.

My choice of software was Mixmeister. All my mixes thus far were done with it, and I found it more intuitive than anything else I've tried. A few things I suggest though if you try it out. First of all, turn off all the automatic junk. Half of it doesn't work anyways.

One thing I really liked about the software was the ability to play with looping. For example, the majority of my mixes (Mix 6 and later) start off with a "megamix" intro, with 4,5 or even 6 tracks layered at once. Mix 6 was my very first try at doing exactly that, and it's still one of my favorite intros.

Or in this one, I played around with sampling some movie dialogue, as well as sort of "remixing" the first track (it has a very slow buildup, so I mixed in a couple of other tracks in the first couple of minutes to flesh it out).

Or in Mix 10, I mixed a couple of versions together of "Let U Go" at around 26:00 to 28:00 in the mix. Your challenge is to find where one starts and one ends.

Anyways, I highly recommend it as a software package to start out with, as everyone starts somewhere. I've been wanting to make the transition to vinyl for quite some time now, and I am sooooooo happy with my Technics.
