I realize that this is not really a trance toon, but a friend of mine and I have an ingoing argument about this song. He thinks it's one of the greatest songs ever. I think it sucks balls. I'd like to here what everyone else has to say.

ATC or ATB???

The ATC song is a common dancetrack with a typical awful one pattern melody. I don't like it, it's simply very boring.
I've never heard Around The World by ATB.

Peace!

YEZy

Good question. I don't own the song (for obvious reasons) but my friend tells me it's by ATB. The song you're describing definitely sounds like the song I'm thinking of though.

First of all, the song is by ATB.

Secondly, I never said it was one of the greatest songs ever. In fact, I've never even come close to claiming such madness. I do, however, like the song quite a bit, as it is very corny and uplifting.

Thirdly, Ohm, your favorite song of all time is by Seal, so I don't want to hear any smack out of you ever again

Hehe.. you guyz are funny!!! It's cool to have your own taste no matter what other peeps say, just as a consolation I really really love ATB's Till I Come, and I know everyone did at one point..as for being corny and uplifting, a lot of stuff coming out these days are and we can't get enough of them...

Sure, i thought ATB was pretty kewl... for a while...
The problem about ATB is that he isn't creative enough and his music gets more boring everytime you listen it.

I think that ATB has his own style, but the poor guy's music got killed by the mainstream or rather everyone.. I think when he first came out it was innovative but too many peeps tried to copy his style and now it's just too much and you heard his stuff on every radio station and every club.. Two years ago he was the man, who knows, what we love today, we might hate tommorow too, I've noticed the very same thing with Paul Oakenfold...

Thanks Bendy! And well put Furee. Part of why I like ATB is because he has such a distinct sound. You always know it's ATB in the first couple of measures, even if you've never heard the song before. Of course, this has the side effect that most of his songs sound the same, which is why ATB isn't even close to being on my favorites list. But he sure is fun to listen to once in awhile.

Adding to what Furee said, continuing as a musician is a double edged sword. If your new songs are similar to your old songs, everyone complains they all sound the same. If you change your style a bit, everyone complains your new stuff isn't as good as your old stuff. This doesn't always happen, but is very common across the music board in every genre.

Another thing is that some of the appeal of trance is the fact that it is an underground genre of music (at least in my part of the US). The few trance fans in the area are generally listening to people like Paul Oakenfold which causes me to find lesser known DJs like Johan Gielen. If and when in my area Gielen becomes super popular, I will probably be inclined to listen to someone else. Being different is cool

ATB does indeed have a unique style and if you like that style, all the songs sounding similar is not necessarily a bad thing.

I don't dislike most of the ATB songs I have heard (with the obvious exception) but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to listen to them either. The songs I have heard I would put into the catagory of "filler music" which are the songs put in sets to let dancing audiences recover from the really good songs. This does not make them bad, just not great.

ATB's main problem is that if you took away his pitch bender, his songs would have no excitement at all.
