Why do music sound better when played out loud?

Well, why? And it works for headphones as well, so it can't be because the bass feels good on your body, can it?

Well....

At first, Music sounds better when played loud, because all the samples/instruments/FX can all be heard, cause if you play it on a low volume you can't hear all.

Second, When played loud, you're body feels all the vibrations and you feel absolutely good!

*edit* The second statement, is a little vague because i've had a lot of beers allready, and i'm not really aware of what i'm posting right now, but it sounds true

I've been thinking about that for a time myself, but I haven't found a clear answer. Perhaps it has got something to do with what Soundlab said, that the sound becomes more alive because your body can feel the vibration.

But on the other hand, if you a play a track at very low volume it will sound better when you turn it up a bit, but the vibrations of the sound will not increase as much as the sound sweetness increase

I agree about hearing all the sounds and fx clearer, but what if it's just one sound we're talking about? A sound which represents a small number of freqs. Will it sound better if you turn it up? All the frequencies are heard when it's low.. so why would it sound better if you turned up the volume?

For me, when music is played loud, and on headphones, it sounds better cause you Can't Hear Anything Else, just the music. Otherwise, you have a lot of background noise that gets in the way of the softer sounds in music. Thats why crappy headphones suck so bad, cause they dont filter out the background noise.

Also, when you in your car, do you ever put the windows up just to make the music sound better? You do it cause you reduce the background noise.
