then what is the point of posting at all. Some nights with residents are better than others just the same as with guests.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing but respect for the locals, |
yet you tirade about why I'm being ridiculous?
| quote: | | After the 1P event (which I'm guessing you didn't go to because of your "grudge" against System), |
I don't have a grudge against system at all and even if i did it wouldnt even be 1/10 of the grudge you seem to have against Guvernment for example
| quote: | | This thread seems to be nothing but a re-hashed version of your non-stop barrage of attacks against any DJ with more than the tiniest hint of international acclaim. |
international or local i call them as i see them. If they are getting paid 50,000 for a set then they better damn well outshine the local opener or closer and rarely in my eyes do they do this.
| quote: | | Look Jay, I know a lot of it is marketing, but there is a REASON why these guys have acclaim. |
Exactly and you answered it yourself. Marketing. I happen to not buy into marketing.
| quote: | | Our locals are great, but there's a difference between going to a club and going to see an "event". "Events" are special appearances that don't happen very often. |
You are right. "events" cost more and have more people.
| quote: | | Clubs are open every week and the residents are there every week. There's a world of difference between being a local DJ that knows how to please his hometown crowd and being a superstar DJ that knows how to please ANY crowd - and if that superstar DJ does not know how to please the crowd, then it is something we want to hear about so we can ignore the hype next time! |
yes, the local doesnt act like a rock star and demand outrageous riders and fees.
| quote: | | I can't help but laugh when I see a thread reviewing a Mark Oliver resident night. |
but you have nothing but respect for local talent... right.
| quote: | | Guess what folks - we KNOW how Mark Oliver plays. We've ALL seen Mark Oliver. We don't NEED to hear your personal feelings on how the night went. |
He has better nights than others just like any DJ would. And sometimes the crowd is better than other nights. I personally dont care to hear people's personal feelings on tiesto every second but c'est la vie.
And that should by no means be taken as a sign of disrespect to MO - it simply means that the review is superfluous and essentially telling us what we already know. | quote: | | I'm not saying MO isn't good, just that he doesn't need reviews when he's already got a captive audience of several hundred people at least two nights of the week! | several hundred people? I believe a "slow night" at Viva is 800 and a "slow" night at Guv is in the thousands.
| quote: | | Just because it takes place at an EDM club and it's similar music to what the headliners play does not make it a "special event" and definitely does not mean it requires a review. If I hear something from a local DJ that is truly outstanding and I feel deserves mention, like when I mentioned Kenny Glasgow's set before Misstress Barbara, then I will write about it. [quote} I know exactly what YOU'RE shooting for Jay, and let me tell you, the last thing we need on this forum are hundreds of reviews of the most mundane nights at the most overrated club in North America. |
was that just a local review? ahahah What am I shooting for? A little more respect for music for being music and less hype. Local DJs dont hire PR reps and get popular for playing great music. Let me also say that it used to be that we wanted international talent to come to bring fresh tunes but now all i hear is "wow he played such and such track thats 2 years old... he rules!"
| quote: | | But hey, as long as we're reviewing everything under the sun, does anybody want me to post a review the bagel I had for breakfast this morning? |
Im sure it will review itself in a few hours.... ahahaha
Let me end by saying that if you put all that flame effort that you just put into that letter into supporting your favourite local DJ then maybe we'd have a stronger scene and better resident nights.
