Guv All-Access Parties: On the decline?

What do you guys think?

Personally, although The Guv has traditionally gone with safe bets when booking their all access parties, it seems that they are ever more taking the easy way out with their bookings.

I remember when a proper Guv All-Access party would have been something like Demi, Digweed and Deep Dish in the mainroom, a big trance line-up in the Kool Haus, a breaks DJ in the Orange Room, and someone like John Acquiviva or Harry Choo Choo Romero in The Drink.

All access parties of the present day see two rooms with locals only, one room with pure cheese (Guetta and Sander? wtf?), and admittedly a really good trance room.

What do you guys think the reasoning behind this is?

Are big all-access parties just not that popular anymore?
Is our scene shrinking?
Is Guv taking a no-risk policy due to the economy?

Have Guv All-Access parties seen their day?

Or am I just not a part of the market that Guv targets any more?

Thoughts?

I think the all access parties have gone downhill but I also think they are targeting a different audience for their all access parties. It seems they bring in the more commercial DJs now and more mainstream sounding DJs. I'm sure its great for business but it definitely makes me want to stay away.

Guetta in the main room is just bad timing for us, he's going to be around and Decadence is in that time frame, Sander i don't know why...

Guetta is a sure shot money maker, fill up the main room & the koolhaus.. I don't really know if i i'll want to be there after i saw first hand what was Labour of Love. You can also look at it as a way for new people to come to guv, get someone like Guetta there and people will say " hey this is an amazing place" then go there from then on.

Dj's are getting bigger and there are higher demand for certain ones then a couple years ago, that could also be one of the main factors.

As long as they keep Canada Day & Family Day the same... i'll be happy, I don't mind the all toronto room either, maybe I'll get a shot to spin there one day so that doesn't bug me at all.

Like everything then.

Where's the variety, the different NEW djs of varying genres? (Not just techno or trance),

The booking staff has dropped the ball for sure over the past 3 years with their all access events. The unique variety of talent they used to bring in is no longer present. The safe route is played out by bringing in the same tired acts over and over. Like you said gone are the days of some breaks in the orange room or some internationl dj spinning house upstairs in the drink. Enough with the local talent which we can see week in and week out. The time has come to contain the local jocks to 1 room and/or simply playing in the opening time slot.

I absolutely loved that format, but I don't see how it could make money anymore. There were die hard fans, that showed and supported the lesser known DJ's in the smaller rooms, but they cleared out pretty quickly and the rooms became empty wastelands. It must cost a hell of a lot to start up an extra room.

But, I think most of the decline can be attributed to Circa opening up. It has all access all (?) the time, and definitely competes on that BIG CLUB feel. I think the timelines coincide pretty well.

My guess is that they just have not seen an acceptable revenue increase for having that many more headliners, vs having locals fill the rooms.
