i quit last summer when i found out i was pregnant again, i quit cold turkey and it was alot easier for me because i didn't want to smoke while pregnant and i didn't want assistance. after loosing a pregnancy earlier in the year i wasn't taking any chances. I've been real tempted to start again since he's been born but i decided it was irresponsible, i didn't want to expose the kids to the smoke and i didn't want to risk getting seriously ill down the road and them having to go through that because i had a bad (but oh so satisfying)habit..

I've never liked cigarettes that much. I tried one of these recently and they are wicked though, I'm going to buy one. You can smoke them indoors because they smell nice and they don't burn your throat like cigs. Also, it's hard to get addicted to something which doesn't fit in your pocket.

The anti-depressant equivalent of Zyban in Canada is called Wellbutrin. Doctors who are sympathetic to their patient's finances often prescribe it because insurance plans cover Wellbutrin, but not Zyban. I took it years ago. The desire to smoke was still there, because my habbit is social/situational.... but it sure tasted sour on the toungue and gave a little gaga reflex. I switched to menthol, and the nasty symptoms were gone unfortunately.

Yeah, I was gonna say that like with any medication - it's not effective for everyone. I was even gonna point out that it might not work for smokers like yourself, hah. I'm the same way, so I doubt it would work for me either. Also, fuck taking anti-depressants.

i found cigs and a lighter among my gf's stuff yesterday (we live together)

she was really embarassed when i confronted her about it and lied ("they're my friend's"). after I called her out on her hair smelling like smoke occasionally and the fact that I noticed her new lighter once before she said she'd always had it, she knew finally admitted to having started smoking, but told me that she's disgusted by it and that she wants to stop. Being so embarrassed about it, I don't even know if she told me the actual extent to which she has been smoking, so I'm not sure how difficult it will be for her to quit.

I tossed her cigs and lighter in the trash chute.

gahh.. i've definitely had a few cigarettes in my life (not in years though), but all-in-all the habit disgusts me, and i really don't want my potential baby mama to be sucking on that shit, nor do i want to smell it in her hair and see it on her face and teeth, and above all, I don't want her to feel bad about something that disgusts her as well.

Never been in this situation, but I think I'm doing the right thing, and helping her.

To be honest, I don't think you ARE doing the right thing. She didn't ask you to help her (did she?), and you took it upon yourself to make a choice for her. I would be pissed if someone did that to me. Who are you to decide for someone if/how they want to do something?
