the reason skateboarding is more famous is because tony hawk got sponsored and took skateboarding to a main stream status before aggressive inline ever started up. then when it did get started, everybody that was into an extreme sport already skateboarded because it was so "cool" to do.

most of the kids who skateboard nowadays only do it because its considered cool, but inline is still more underground, and since anyone who could take it to mainstream status is skateboarding or has sold out to the ASA or xgames, no one really cares.

just for the record, the best rollerbladers in the world arent those chinese dudes you see tearing up the halfpipe on TV. instead its people like aaron feinberg or dustin latimer tearing up ever rail they see in the underground scene, who dont even bother competing for any big TV competitions, but rather IMYTA comps and stuff.

fact is, aggro inline is a lot harder, but more underground, and the greatest skaters in the world dont bother competing for money on the mainstream TV shows, so the world isnt shown what real inline is about. if anyone has ever seen mindgames words vid, they know what im saying.

when feinberg did that 360 royale cesslide to 360 royale cesslide down that canal wall, that was sick as hell.

oh and orbax, you're a douche bag. learn what you're talkin about before you speak...

I used to play a lot of roller hockey and skate around a bit. I wouldn't say I was super aggressive by any means though. Now I play ice hockey. I love the ice!

Thats the truth. What's funny about skateboarding is that it tries (or has tried) to be this rebellious counter-culture, but it's ended up being a mainstream activity, complete with big stars, big money, big contracts, big sponsorships, and everything else. No disrespect to the boarders who don't give a fuck about any of that and just do it for the joy of it. But for the rest of them, they're walking cliches.

And a lot of them are fucking dicks, for no reason at all. I recall almost getting into fights with skateboarders at my local park twice - once because I cut one off and he decided to get in my face about it for no reason. The other time was when Andy Kruse cut one off while going Mach 2. The skateboarder got pissed, took his helmet off and threw it at him from behind, nearly tripping him. So Andy just picked the helmet up and threw it behind the vert ramp. The asshole didn't think that was too funny so he tried to pick a fight (which prompted me and about 5 or 6 other rollers to go tell him to fuck off). That's some pretty juvinile behavior. I mean, it's a public skatepark that happens to be very popular. You're going to get cut off, get over it.

What's really nice about rollerblading is that the whole scene is still very underground. I've skated and hung out with a lot of pros that you see in magazines and videos. They don't make loads of cash for what they do. They don't have a big ass luxury tour bus. They don't have hordes of screaming kids following them around. The best rollers in the world are just regular guys who you can chill with (who happen to be really fucking good). That's a real blessing, IMO.

i can jump around and go backwards and do all sorts of cool tricks on them too all those friday nights at the rollerskating rink when i was 10 payed off

This is why people hate this shit.

Its the same for everything. Ohhhh its UNDERGROUND its soooo coooool. You just dont know! Here, let me throw some terms at you that you couldnt give a shit less about or youd know because there are 1000 million sites devoted to it on the internet. And every skate shop on earth has videos of these guys. Thats how underground it is. Its so underground its in the X-Games.

It isnt elite. Its another sport that individuals have achieved excellence in. Curling is technically "underground" too if you went by your definition. Its just such absolute bullshit when people try to tell you that youre stupid or unable to understand just because you dont like it either.

Holy crap, you have a different opinion, you must not understand. Thats logical!!!!!

Its the same fucking moves as in every other sport just modified. Its hard! Its fun! but it isnt any better or worse than anything else.

Its terms like "HardC0r3 thrasher skating" that make people hate it. Its inline skating. Period. People dont call the 400m the 400 meter one lap of total annhilation and death!1!!11!.

If they did it would be *stupid*

So why do inline skaters need to seperate themselves from the drooling masses? Every sport has its weekend warrior suckass. It seems pretty defensive to call the people who are actually good at it anything other than what they are. Inline skaters.

Its that very attitude of elitism that pisses people off about skateboarders too. That people just dont understand anything. That you are soooooo much more evolved and intelligent than everyone, they can suck your agressive inline dust!

Bah.

Its a cool a sport, with a lot of amazing people, just like every other sport.

it is underground. atleast the best in the world are underground. aggressive inline has hit a mainstream level per se, but thats in the Xgames and ASA. see, those guys arent the best. in fact they cant touch what the best guys can. in other words, they are sell outs. they dont really care about the underground scene because they make so much cash at what they're doing. i said its underground, because true aggro inlne is.

the best rollers in the world dont skate the mainstream. they skate the underground scene and thats it. thats why i call it underground. because those pansies on ASA and Xgames are just a mainstream sell out version of the real true soul of inline that we can find in the underground scene. thus when i say underground, i mean true inline.

see, the greatest skateboarders in the world skate the mainstream scene. this is why thats considered mainstream and inline isnt.

understand now? so stop your whinin

It's not about elitism. Sure, there are plenty of elitist rollerbladers, just like in any other sport. What's nice about rollerblading though, as opposed to a lot of other "extreme" sports is that the people who do it are very down to earth, and that real street skating still receives very little public exposure.

Yeah, inline is an X-Games competition. But the street course has been cut from the TV schedule. As far as the public is concerned, it may as well not even exist. Besides, there's still a big difference between someone skating ramps and boxes in a 2 minute run, and skating obstacles on the street that were never intended for it. The Vert competition still gets aired, but one of the Yasutoko's always wins anyways. Vert skaters certainly have my respect, but what they do isn't the subject of discussion.

Street skating gets pretty much zero public exposure. I doubt you could walk into any random skateshop and find a copy of Intro, or VG22, or KFC3. There are all sorts of shows on TV like Bluetorch or 54321 that feature all sorts of 'extreme' sports, yet I have never seen or heard of them air anything on street skating. The most I've seen is a few crash clips on RealTV.

The best street skaters in the world don't have big sponsorships, and don't make lots of money. A lot of them just barely get by. They're just normal guys who happen to be really fucking good. I skate and hang out with a lot of them on a regular basis. For a lack of a better word, I would definately say that street skating is 'underground' (though I agree that people toss that word around a lot to describe just about anything).

I don't think anyone here disagrees. When it comes down to it, we're inline skaters, though what we do is defintely a lot different than some guy in a jumpsuit cruising down the beach - hence the term aggressive skating. It's not really about being hardc0r3 or extreme l33t, it's just a term someone came up with.
