Ofcourse it has a piano roll, its not at all sample based only. Its fully VSTi supported. It rocks!

I use Ableton Live 4 as a rewire slave to Cubase mainly for looping alone, but also for some of the built in effects, particularly the delays. Some very nice ones there. Ableton is amazing in that you can drop any loop into various banks and click play at random and everything will be perfectly timed for you.

I for my part, could never work with exporting loops etc like that, I change everything all the time until its time to export the whole track. Rather do it all in realtime!

// Jezper

you dont export the loops, its just like any other sequencer

i'm saying fl is real time, you dont export until the end, unless you want to bounce stuff to wave

Jezper what do you use to program your drums? impulse?

also the only thing that pisses me off in ableton (mainly because i dont know how to do it otherwise) is the luck of samples to use.....like some claps snares kicks etc.

i use Simpler for all my sample based percussions. when i'm in Cubase i'll load up everything in Battery, but using Battery and Kontakt in Live is a hassle because you have to route things here and there and then have audio tracks to monitor the outputs. multi-tambral instruments are so much easier to use in other DAW's.

and now i'm getting off topic. but yea... i love Live. it has a very simple, intuitive interface that makes for fast production.
