I think you will have a relatively good amount of success even going without them. Most of the time if you are prepared to go to court they will do just about anything to stop it to save time. So if you were to do something like want to take the stand, or at least say that you will, chances are the prosecuter will give you the option to plea to a lesser charge and no points.
That's what I did, on my best buddies older brothers advice, who is a cop.

the demerit points don't mean shit for insurance...it's the charge/conviction itself...they divide convictions into major and minor offences, AFAIK.
demerit points determine whether or not you can renew your licence...i.e. too many and it's suspended.
demerit points and major convictions go hand in hand, of course...but don't get hung up on the points...just try to get the charge reduced to what your insurer will consider a "minor" offence.

Kel if your already committed to points then by all means keep going...don't play with your driving security. I know points is well connected and will probably help you a lot....but it's gonna cost ya.
Perhaps it's time to get a man that can pass as a cop.......cops never give cops a speeding ticket......even when they are speeding ahahahahaa

Never went to points...I just went to the judge and pleaded guilty to the minimum charge...meaning all points were taken off and i just paid the minimum fee. I was going 81 at a 60 zone.
By the way you need to be AT LEAST 15 km/h above speed limit for them to give you a ticket...I got 3 points for going 81, can you believe it?! Anyway it's all taken care of now but I wouldn't pay anyone ANYTHING...
