i beg to differ. i am in a serious relationship and my bf and i both respect each others' privacy. he doesn't check my phone, email, etc... and vice versa. i won't even bother to check his phone if it's ringing and he is asleep in the other room unless he asks me to. it's not always about respect, but i believe if you're in a serious relationship, even if you have access to check someone's phone/email/whatever, you shouldn't. it just shows you don't trust them.
my ex used to check my call log on my cell phone, email, AIM, computer files, posts on message boards, etc... i couldn't stand it because it just showed how insecure he was and how little trust he had for me.
there's a difference between being comfortable enough to give your passwords to your significant other, and violating someone's privacy.
