Sasha and Diggers underground? come on.

also, I have maintained NOT that S&D and G&D are at an equal place now - obviously they're not. What I have said is that it is quite possible that we are looking at the beginning of a ten year reign by G&D, much as ten years ago we were looking at a ten year reign by S&D.

i remember watching and listening to sasha and digweed ten years ago, and seeing their place in the EDM scene, and how their productions/material/live sets/etc were taken at the time - they were viewed as serious steps towards mainstream commercialisation of the scene. do you remember the massive uproar over sasha's 'selling out' with xpander when it was sold to sony to use on a video game soundtrack (wipeout xl for the original playstation) nearly ten years ago? or the kafuffle over northern exposure's distribution and repackaging to suit 'the man' corporate american record labels? massive, wholesale corporate whoring, folks said at the time.

yet now we like to look back at S&D with this 'theyve always been underground' rose-coloured lens, while calling G&D the exact same things S&D were being called in 96-97.

i am now seeing with G&d what i consider to be something similar to what s&d went thru in the mid 90s. you can disagree if you want, but i'd appreciate it if you understood what i'm saying (in short - g&d now seems a lot like s&d then, at least to me) before shooting it down.

your points are valid, however you still havn't mentioned what EVIDENCE are G&D on their way to being the next Sasha and Digweed? the only thing that I can honestly point out is the fact that there are two of them! otherwise they have nothing in common to suggest anything of the sort.

They are totally incomparable, G&D predominantly produce vocal EDM for a more commericial based market, while Sasha and Digweed, have continued to push the scene at a purely underground level! as dj's also, how can you even begin to say there are similarities between Sasha and Digweed's almost 10 year reign at the top of EDM music, while G&D are nowhere near being classified as the number 1 dj's within America let alone the world. Northern exposure, Renaissance, Twilos, countless classic essential mixes........ what the hell have G&D contributed for someone to even begin mentioning them in the same breath?

A BIG FAT NOTHING

ok forget who is underground and who is not! lets talk in terms of contribution. Sasha and Digweed reshaped the way we listen to music. They were the original pioneers who brought EDM music to the international stage and the success of everything and anything they were remotely associated with had ground breaking effects (no need to go into any detail! anyone who disputes this fact has rocks in their head)

Lets fast forward to 2005........there are about one million artists who could argue that they are 'pushing' EDM music like Sasha and Digweed did in the early 90's. It is everywhere and exists in more sub-genres than ever imagined. To say that G&D will be the next Sasha and Digweed would be to completely disregard these sub-genres, as EDM music has evolved far beyond the point where you or I can say that these guys will be the next innovators of EDM! no one can claim to be the next Sasha and Digweed, as EDM has evolved far beyond any one particular style. I'm not having a dig at G&D (I enjoy their productions! Way out west - Mindcircus G&D mix is definitely in my top 5 tracks of all time), but anyone who comes out and claims that any particular artist will have the same influence as Sasha and Digweed, clearly does not understand that EDM in 2005 is alot different to EDM in 1992 when Sasha and Digweed were originally coming to terms with this new style of music.

So you were listening to Sasha and Digweed when you were 8 years old? At the risk of repeating myself, ten years ago, people viewed S&D not so differently from how they view G&D now. They weren't gods, and they weren't the ones that put EDM on the map, either; Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, and New Order (to name a few) were filling stadiums around the world with EDM throughout the 80s.

I suspect you're working from inherited nostalgia for a period in music-history time that you weren't around for.

With G&D, the proof will be the test of time. I say good on em, and lets see how the next few years treat them.

pfft, maybe you should have been appointed mastering engineer for this record then

ps. SID FOR PRESIDENT - my thoughts EXACTLY.
