My old man is 60 and he likes my CDs
He goes out to some dance parties as well (though different places to what I go to).

I know of another AUTA who's father got him into the music

Moral is you're never too old....

... but this my friend, is a stupid question

I don't know how anyone can think there's an age limit to liking music

imo it's not a stupid question!

Like I said, my friend is afraid to go to EDM clubs cuz he once heard talk about an older couple that were so plastered and dancing really weird. So now he won't go and enjoy the music he loves bcuz he thinks others will laugh at him (his age) and won't want him there having fun too.

I completely agree with that. If the music sounds good, I'm gonna listen to it, no matter how old I am. As far as going to clubs where everyone else is half your age. it all depends on how comfortable you can be with it and relate to the people that are there. I don't think I'm going to be hangin out at 18&under joints when I'm 60 , but if someone else feels comfortable doing so, hey - more power to them. Live and let live, man - do your thing, and let everyone else do theirs.

Wow that's like awesome

See I'd like to have my friend meet these older people. I think he just feels all alone like a black sheep for liking EDM. He really likes the old and new trance. Huge fan of Corsten and Tiesto, HUGE!

ahh screw it
I feel just as uncomfortable there as he would and I am thier age. I say screw it tell him to go and if the kids make fun of him then tell them to go screw themselves.I definately think older people at raves get treated better than old people at punk shows and probably better than at bars (although im not sure as i turn 21 in 2 months)
I know im probably just soundin dumb like everyone else but I go for the same reasons your friend wants to.I go for the music and I say screw the scene.People are gonna be dicks no matter what even if he was thier age.

30-50 older people? Wow, _now_ I feel old!

As for dancing, perhaps you can't teach us old dogs new tricks? Those of us who first learned to dance to (the original) House, New Wave, Synthpop and Freestyle probably won't fit in no matter what we do. Too much old muscle memory to overcome, not to mention the joint replacements and receding hairlines When you see an old man trying to cross the dance floor, do your cub scout best and help him out, OK?

Should we shuffle out only on retro night? I don't think so but how you feel will depend on the individual. It can be odd to party with people who are practically or even literally from a previous generation.

Should be interesting though. 60-year old rockers are still touring but will 60-year old DJs still be spinning in the future and will there still be a place from which they can buy their (record) needles?

Harry

As has been stated before, tell your friend age should not hinder them from going and enjoying the music they love. If the spirit moves them to dance, then DANCE. Who gives a rat's arse what anyone else thinks? It shows just how much you truly love what is being played.

Be Cool!

I dunno man. I am a recent convert to electronic music and EDM in general and I'm about to turn 50. I would personally love to go out to one of these club/events and perhaps even dance with Molly for the night but I'm a bit concerned with how I would be recieved, but yeah my concerns are somewhat assuaged by the fact I can easily pass for mid 30's
