One way I caught a DJ is through the tracklistings of the set. I remember listening to a John B set, and really appreciating the way he layered two tracks when he mixed out of one into another. Then I listened to another set, and he did the EXACT SAME THING in it. Of course it could be argued that he just knows how to do it that well live. I dunno.
The cynical part of me would say that it also depends on how big of a gimmick the DJ is. The bigger the gimmick, the less surprised I would be if the music came second to his gimmicks, and thus was pre-recorded. |
Well if it's a youtube video the sound might be delayed.. but yeah usually you can tell if someone is playing with the EQs, like in all those Eddie Halliwell videos.
Also with the mixing of similar songs together, some songs just sound amazing next to eachother, prime example is Mojado - Kaktus and Sander Van Doorn - Riff
