People dislike Jules because he's a music whore. He's in it for the money 100%.
That said, I dislike people who only like "underground" music. No doubt a lot of the narrow minded people on these boards will go off "Ferry Corsten - Punk" simply because Dave Pearce made it his tune of the week last week, and because a lot of cheesy bars and clubs are playing it.
This is what I dislike. Thankfully, there don't appear to be as many hypocritical people in the trance scene as in the Garage scene, but I don't like this "I only like music the public havn't heard of" attitude.
In my opinion, Jules is a very competent DJ. I like him as a DJ, I can't stand him as a person. He's an egotistical wanker wherever he goes, he punched a clubber at Gatecrasher just because the clubber was wearing a t-shirt saying something rude about him. Whilst I dislike people who condemn anything commercial, it is true that the roots of clubbing and partying hard would survive better if the scene was not commercialised. Judge Jules goes against the philosophy of the "underground" club. He did start in underground clubs around London, but headed straight for the money. This is on contrast to DJs like Rob Tissera, who ended up in prison doing something he loved, and was still undeterred when he came out, or John '00' Fleming, whose career was almost destroyed by lung cancer, and he had to start from scratch and work his way back to the top. Laslty, Jules has done nothing to make his mark on the scene, he simple parades around Britain every week making more and more money. His job is not easy, but he is by no means a "clubbers DJ".
I've seen Jules perform 3 times now, his sets were mediocre, nothing spectaluar.
Judge Jules is not "shit" but he is VERY overrated. I certainly wouldn't be leaping for joy if I found he was playing near me tonight. He probably is.
