Second, regardless of how "good" this sounds, it's already been pointed out that having 6 guys with laptops on stage to achieve that is pointless.

Electronic Dance Music need not be made to seem like it's something more than it really is in my opinion.

I think Luciano has made some great music. I think Mirko Loko, Digitaline and all those guys have made some great music. I don't see the point of this. I Luciano is just bored of DJing and thinks this will show everyone he's on some purported next level shit and more of an "artist".

i disagree, trying something new (albeit this is nothing new) is not a bad thing at all. Regardless of whether "we" or anyone will accept or like it, technology will continue and new things will be done.

You can see this in production, performing, visual and pretty much in anything associated to this. (many tracks will be done in 5.1 for instance in the near future.)

If you think that in 10 years from now everything will be the same, that is totally false, as the amount of changes that has occurred in the last 2 years is pretty big alone. Live performance is the future and not djing regardless of our opinions of it. You can see this alone with the number of live acts that have come about these last few years compared to say 10 years ago (or even 5).

Nothing has to seem like it is something more, that does not mean everything needs to stay in the same place either.

take this for instance:

this is not intended to be dance music, it is only intended to bring another aspect to performance art. Everything does not have to be so black and white imo.

Which pretty much made the rest of your post, as far as this thread goes, useless.

I'm all for pushing it. 5.1 tracks will be awesome. But this seems to me like mostly grandstanding.

so from now on until the end of time it will just be djs going from track to track?

sorry, i don't care if you think it is useless or not, it is not going to happen.

point a ligne.

grand·stand (grndstnd, grn-)
n.
1. A roofed stand for spectators at a stadium or racetrack.
2. The spectators or audience at an event.
intr.v. grand·stand·ed, grand·stand·ing, grand·stands
To perform ostentatiously so as to impress an audience.

by its own defination it could be said that playing other peoples music and getting paid to do it could be considered as grandstanding.

Where did I say it will be just DJs?

I think there are plenty of more interesting ways we are going to find to play and present electronic music to people and make them dance. More live instrumentation, and better integrated live instrumentation, custom visual shows made specifically for live sets (as with Audion's upcoming tour), and so on. AEther is, as you said, nothing new, nor is it doing anything new, nor does the end result seem like anything of much interest to me.

Your Luciano hard on is showing.

Only if you're pretending it's something greater than it really is.

tell me were i said i liked it (i'm the one who argued with bas at first about this being nothing new btw...i've seen narod nikki live and it rocked, no arguing will change this) I think you know i appreciate a dj set as much or MORE than the next guy....but

since when is electronic music just for dancing? There are tons of successful artists who produce without the intention of making people dance. Your argument is sort of like the vinyl purist saying cd wasn't ok, then ableton/dvs wasn't ok .(you should know you have defended ableton quite a bit in the past.) Through all of the bitching the changes kept happening.

Once again find me where i say this is mind blowing stuff. I don't have to like it, you don't have to like it, but it is going to happen and people will pay to see it regardless of what anyone thinks. I for one welcome this a hell of a lot more than the dj who throws up a jesus pose and jumps around. To me this is more productive.

We don't have to agree, because there are tons of people already doing things of this nature.

It doesn't matter good or bad, like or dislike, it is here.

Yeah I'm just saying I'll take Mikael Stavostrand's live PA with just his laptop and a little midi controller over this shit.

and like i said i don't think that there is anything wrong with that either or one is better than the other. (i've seen stravostrand do a pa too).

can we both agree at least that this is better than one guy crowd surfing with a wii mote?

Speaking of pan flutes, I don't think it will be long before you see ableton jam bands on every corner in america.
