The crowd really thinned out about 45 min after last call. And the club left the AC on full blast, freezing everyone out the door.

5/10
Armin did have it loud and kept killing the highs but it was to talk to people which its understandable but he did it way to often and really ruined some of the tracks. As for the crowd thinning out after last call, its Ruby Skye and its always like this Armin was disappointing for such a huge headliner but his crowd interaction is ace and IMO its why people were so into it along with him not being here in such a long time -- the slightest hand raise or jesus pose and the crowd would go nuts

Mexico can wait, heaven scent, king of my castle, and the aly & fila tracks were the highlight for me Got about a dozen plus things signed for Frank and my friend Jess as well. Also theres this one light that goes right down the middle above the dance floor that I was waiting for all night to come up but it never lit up, at least not as bright and colorful as w/ Ferry, Markus or B&J and along with my batteries dying for my flash (forgot to recharge) so I'm a bit disappointed with the lighting this night and my photos but still got a few good ones

I had an amazing time last night I brought several noobies to Ruby Skye and they had a blast. Armin played some nice tracks last night and I enjoyed his set, although he definitely played more trancy at Giant Village. I absolutely loved the second to last song he used in his encore. It had a grungy electric guitar riff, if anyone could ID it let me know!!

Armin wasn't killing the highs, he was cutting off the monitors in the DJ booth.

I definitely had a blast last night. Hard day at work today though I agree with everything people said. The bass was definitely overpowering. The crowd cleared out after last call which was awesome for us true TAs There was a little bit of pushing/shoving on the dance floor, but overall the crowd was awesome and really into the whole show. I loved his whole set; loved the Aly & Fila tracks :P especially "FKN feat. Jahala - Why (Aly & Fila remix)". "Heaven Scent" was kind of a surprise to me, considering Ferry just spun it at Ruby Skye a couple of weeks ago. Thanks to those who requested "Exhale" as well... saw one dood give a sign to some girl with "Exhale" written really big on it. But I guess it's not like he wouldn't have played it anyway.. I'm sure the people in the front were typing that on their cell phones and showing it to Armin. What was everyone texting to Armin anyway in the front?

Armin's crowd interaction was top-notch as well. Loved how he spun "Seven Cities" (I thought that was a great song to end the set with) at the end and came out of the DJ booth to shake everyone's hands and sign stuff. People were asking him to sign their cell phones I think all these superstar DJs have to have some charisma (and good crowd interaction) in order to get to that level in the first place.

PS: That guy in the bunny suit was there again. He must be so hot under that thing!!

yeah too much bass is a common problem at Ruby Skye. it was the same for blank & jones, the songs turn into a mash of unidentifiable rumbling and repetitive booming which gets a bit tedious in anything resembling a sober state of consciousness. Armin's set was better than some other big DJs Ive seen lately but not as good as the last time I saw him at WMC. Okay, so this is Sunday night and that was WMC, but still, BRING the frickin CHOONS! All in all a good night, and not as ridiculously crowded as Saturdays

I don't know the sound guy at Ruby (although I hear he's top-notch), buy a lot of the times when you hear a drastic noticeable change over the night, it's more of the house sound than what the DJ is pushing.

Yes, the house sound is adjusted through the night. In a lot of cases, it's intentionally started a lower levels and throughout the night they will raise the volume, adjust the frequencies, etc. Case in point, things are usually raised while the headliner is on compared to the the opener.

When it comes to issues with Ruby's system, I notice it is just about always regarding the bass. Almost every time. This makes me believe the bass becomes out of balace as they raise the overall volume in the system. Hopefully someone from Ruby read this thread to adust how things are. Bass might sound and in balace at lower levels but could very well become overpowering as things are turned up.

It seems that other than a few people, everyone really had fun. I hope no one compares the night to the Monday night party with him last year (July 3, 2006) because very few nights will ever top that. It was truly one of the nights ever in SF, IMO, and it will surely be in the back of people's heads.

I hope I can get a hold of Jason Knights opening set somehow, if it was recorded. The quality of Armin's set is almost always parallel to the quality of the openers set. Even though he only hears the last few tracks. If you have seen Armin a whole lot, you know he instantly has a reaction to the opener when he enters the club and feeds off of it. Something I've realized for awhile and after Alain & Syd's AMAZING tag-team opening set last year (best opening set in all of 2006, IMO) and just seeing Armin's reaction to how it ended, I was saying right away it was going to be an amazing set. And he threw down what was way more than an amazing set! (This all goes back to why I generally think his SF sets are better than his LA sets...because the LA openers just don't do too great of a job leading into him)

I'm just glad everyone had a fun night in general. And I really hope it doesn't take a year for him to come back. I would LOOOVEEE to see Armin in SF on like NYE or something. I think he's due here for a NYE party. I'm tire of the same recycled DJs coming through on NYE. Armin and like SvD and J00F on NYE would be OMFG!

Michelle won't shut up over how Armin recognized her. Makes her all giddy. Stop it rubbing it in people!

My Review on Sunday....

Well it took me a while to get on here.. Mainly cause I kept falling asleep all over the house today..

Im learning that I cant stay up for 3 days anymore like I used to, and live off energy drinks. Not good for me body... Max maybe 2 days.. no more 3 day parties for me with 2 hours of sleep every now and then...

Yeap, some of us were MIA on Sunday, but it was good to see a great turnout it being Sunday Morning people goin nuts. Expecially those of you I ran into saying you had to work in about 3-4 hours...

Anyhow, I got to the city around 11:10, and arrived at the club around 11:25, enough time to hear about a hours worth of Jason Knights set. during the week I read up on Jason, and I heard about him, So I wanted ample time to get to Ruby to hear what he had to offer. Great opening set. Although everyone there was ready for Armin, I personally felt he did a great job at leaving it right where it should be for Armins entrance.

As soon as Armin got on, roar from the crowd told the story of how this night was gonna be played out. I love when Armin comes to SF.. I have read the reviews of him playing in LA, and havent been to very many of his sets up there. But when he comes out here he impresses me every time. Ive witnessed Armin play at Sensation, Godskitchen and Gatecrasher. San Francisco is one of the few places I have been to where Armin plays, and Spundae will actually allow a handful of us to be this close. I havent missed an Armin show yet in SF to date. (At least I cant remember if I did or not)

I was impressed by his track selections and what he had in his case. I kept a watchful eye as he went through his case to see what he was going to play next. I was suprised to see so much Sean Tyas in there, and happy to hear when he dropped Seans newest I also just recieved - One More night out.

Highights for me were when he dropped SVD king of my Castle, Exhale, Heaven Scent, Mexico can wait, and his final closing song which is one I played last month closing out Thrillseekers, the Phil York Remix of Seven Cities. Shit possibly one of my favorite tracks of all time...There were many more.. I dont know if he got to play all of them but had them out readily available to play. Does anyone remember if he dropped Tranquility Base - Oceanic? he had it out for a while and I was so hoping to hear it... I also was so hoping to hear that Nic Chagall remix of Sound of Goodbye... He never got around to playing it though, and kept flipping back to the CD page it was on.. I kept thinkin just drop it already!!

I think on every other page there was a CD remix of Sean Tyas. Including the original Promo that Sean Sent out of Lift. I mentioned to Armin I was opening up for Sean on Saturday.... He smiled and gave me a thumbs up.. Then he drops One more night out...

Im not gonna state anything about the night or issues he had if any. Sound issues and such were because of a speaker that kept coming unplugged from someone dancing on Stage too close, and him lowering the booth monitors to talk.. I was happy to be there... I actually got to hear the latency from the dancefloor to the booth this time around..

Note to self: REMEMBER TO BRING FREAKIN EARPLUGS NEXT TIME... I think i lost about 30DB of my hearing last night... Holy SHIITZZZZZ

Gilbert and I took pictures, I took probably about 20-30 pics, with the ISO real high but concentrated on the video more. Ill be editing some of the clips to show here on TA. The plus side to my Digital Camera is its ability to capture pretty good sound in loud enviroments. I listened back and it didnt sound too bad. You'll see some parts of the video where Sucked that I was jumping up and down and the camera fell outta my pocket though. (Thank you Michelle for finding it!!)

Another plus was actually meeting David Lewis for the first time. I thought he would get a kick outta seeing my ID. Seeing how my name is also David Lewis. I was right. He actually told Armin while he was playing and they both were crackin up about it. Dave gave me a huge hug and handed me I think was Cranberry Vodka.. (more vodka than cranberry... Very cool guy.

All and all last night was off the hook. It being a Sunday and me seeing my inspiration for becoming a Dj myself, Armin Van Buuren.

This week I should have some of the video editied. Not too much video but enough to show you soe of the highlights of last night.

Rizo, your camera was a bit unfocused... what happened? Many thanks for the pic tho man! 3rd one to add to my wall here in the Studio.

Thank you for another great Sunday... Spundae.

I'm glad that I wasn't the only one who thought the bass was too loud on Sunday. It wasn't just for Armin's set, but I felt that it was loud even when J.Knight was spinning, as well. I definitely think the speakers were set up that way for the night from the beginning.

I also noticed that the crowd was rude at times. I thought that it would get better after the last call, but unfortunately, it didn't.

I'm a huge Armin fan, but it wasn't his best set. Yes, I won't blame him too much for it since he did spin for 8 hours at GV the night before. But how many times can he do the Jesus pose in a given night!?! Even the screen above was showing a graphic of him doing the pose! LOL
