New to trance

I'm new to the electronica genre as a whole, and I'm very confused as to what to get since there is an unbelievable amount of material out there. Can someone reccomend me some good trance songs/artists to look for?

Some names to search for that I like are:
Paul Van Dyk
DJ Tiesto
Christopher Lawerence
Robert Miles
John Digweed
iio
Riva
Delerium - remixs
Conjure One - remixes
Paul Oakenfold
DJ Sasha
BT
DJ Ann
DJ Rap
Perpetuous Dreamer

Ferry Corsten

But I'm not nearly as hard core as other are but good luck and watch for the flames of hate.

Its best to start with big names and work your way down

start with names like these, along with some of their original tracks
DJ Tiesto (Flight 643, Lethal Industry, Urban Train)
Armin van Buuren (Yet Another Day)
Ferry Corsten (Punk, Indigo)
Sasha (Xpander)
Paul van Dyk (Beautiful Place)
Paul Oakenfold (Ready Steady Go)
BT (Flaming June, Lullaby for Gaia, Never Gonna Come Back Down)

After sampling some of the big names, look at the mixes they do on compilation cds such as Tiesto's Magik or In Search of Sunrise series. Look at the names of tracks and explore their artists. Often, you'll find that DJs and trance artists record under many different names, and you can explore their variation in sound as well as how they work with others on dual projects (a renowned example being Gouryella [Corsten and Tiesto]). A good website for finding out more info on particular artists or projects is
www.discogs.com

Hope you enjoy your time with trance

True true.. u start listening to those big hits(Tiesto,PVD,Oakenfold) and you'll learn to appreciate the finer art of trance.

Try Cirrus too.

well, try starting by the classic compilations/livesets instead of singles

the Magik series and the In Search of Sunrise series by Tiesto
Sasha - Global Underground 013, Ibiza
Paul Oakenfold - Tranceport
Ferry Corsten - live @ Innercity 1999
the old compilations by Armin van Buuren

try also some essential mixes from these guys and Paul van Dyk as well

Well IMHO main stream radio is now playing more dance music then it ever has before, well at least since disco was out in the 70s. Simply there are more multi-format music style stations popping up to capture the youth market who likes trance, techno, hip-hop and even new rock. There are also dance music channels on DSS/cable TV, like Music Choice service, and there is now Sirius and XM radio pay radis service. So yeah more people are getting turned on to trace cause they hear it more places then just the local clubs turntables.

If alternative bands of the 80s/90s like the Cure, Depeche Mode, Erasue, Red Hot Chilie Peppers and Nirvana can make it onto pop radio then you can bet trance/techno is going to be the next wave after the current hip-hop/rap period.

Just my take on it........
