Studio monitors noob question

Hi all,

I would like to know if these monitors,
Behringer B2031P Truth - 2-way Studio-Monitor, 150W, with8 3/4" Woofer and 1" tweeter, extremely flat frequencyresponse (50 Hz - 21 kHz),

I may temporaly set on a home ampli,
From 240watt + 120w acoustic bass

Because i cant buy directly an ampli for now,

Only the monitors,

So maybe a stupid question,
But better a stupid question than new monitors, defect after 5mins

Thanx
Greetz,
Enfusia

I wanna buy these monitors,
But cant directly buy the ampli (Behringer REFERENCE AMPLIFIER A500)
So i wanna buy the ampli later,

The question was,

-If i may use the monitors on a home hifi ampli,
from 240watt and 120w acoustic?,
- Or can i directly connect them to the soundcard (terratec phase88)?

Without any problem, (chance to damage the monitors)

(sorry for bad english)

It's not exactly about wattage. First we need to know the specs of your Home Amplifier/Reciever. When you're rated the 240Watts (I'm assuming Max output) we need to know the Impedence of the Monitors.

Let's assume the Monitors you're looking at are 240Watt Max Output @ 4 ohms. If you're amp delivers 100watts continuous @ 8 Ohms, this is a very BAD combination. 8 Ohms resistance is more than that of 4 Ohms, and requires the Amplifier to work "Harder" to squeeze out the wattage the Monitors demand. If you were to use the monitors and push a higher volume there's a very good chance that you'll either blow your monitors (due to distortion) or you'll overheat your amp and hardware failure could/will occur.

Find out the entire specs of both your amp and the monitors you're looking at and post the specs here.

We'll then be able to tell you if they will work well together or not.

Usually if the Amp has a higher rated impedence value than that of the speakers/monitors. The Amp is usually the thing that will fail (due to overheating/higher current from the lower resistance).

If the speakers/monitors are rated at a higher impedence than that of the Amplifier, you'll usually blow the speakers at higher volumes due to the distortion of the lower resisted wattage.

I hope that explains that alright, maybe someone here can put it into better words than I can.

That's not going to work. Buy active monitors instead.
Supposedly the Behringer monitors have lot of issues with tweeters blowing and stuff. I suggest you check out the Alesis M1 Active Mk2 monitors. I bought a pair of them and I'm very satisfied.

Read reviews...behringer are utter crap and not reavling the "TRUTH" about your sound , everything sounds good on them but then when u hear it on another pair it sounds completely different...

i wont go for any of behringer's "Truth" series monitors

I agree with people above. Truths dont sound that fantastic when you can get other monitors which are better for the same price... Infact in Aus here you can get event alp5s for $150 less... to my ears they kill the behringers and alesis. Alesis are good but they have too much bass and arent really very flat. check out event and krk, they have some great monitors for that price.

I dunno about that. I've heard Behringer have really cleaned up their act and the Truths are pretty good monitors on the budget end. You can definitely get better if you spend more money though.

That said, the tweeter in one of my Dynaudio BM5as blew in September after I had them for only 3 days. Wasn't caused by clipping the amp because I was waaaay under capacity (-55 dB on the mixer). Sometimes these things just happen and the causes could be all sorts of things.
