how important is a title?

when you're listening to a trance tune, does it make a difference when you know the name of it? does the title affect the emotions/images/etc that the music brings out for you?

good question. makes no difference to me whether i know the name of a track or not. quality of the track means so much more to me. however, upon knowing the name of a track, sometimes it impresses me that the track title fits very well with the feeling and emotion that the track brings about.

it's funny, when i'm in a club and hear a new track- i like NEED to find out the title. not just because i want to download it and play it a zillion times, but because you need to figure out what it's "identity" is...sometimes i get disappointed with the titles of songs i really like, but it doesnt make me like them less

No. I have been listening to electronic music since I can remember. Thanks to my mom for constantly playing her dance mix tapes and cds. Only since last Autumn, I would say, did I pretty much start researching the names of tracks and djs. I mean, I have always heard of dj's like Oakenfold and Tiesto but that was pretty much it. So basically what I am saying is that the sound of the music is all I care about. As long as it is apealing to my ear I could give a damn who it is that produced it or is spinning it.

+1

even if the track is by some well known dj, if the track sux, it sux. no amount of hype (label of the song) can compensate for the lack of quality in a track production

hello s&m nerdbot princess!

well I listen to a lot of techno EP's that have exciting names like:
Track 1
Track 2
Track 3

so I think that says it all.

Good question. And yes, I think that the title means something to me. Words have flavour/colour, and it can effect my expectations of the track. Same goes with the artwork of a CD-single. It can affect my associations with the track, and consequently the experience.

very very good question... i culd usually tell the style of the song (if im downloading or looking through records to buy) from the name of it... progressive trance songs have very similar names ( abstract shit like "fractal imbalance" or "invisible sequence"), or i just have a sixth sense (so i stay away from those bc i hate prog. trance)... hard trance and hardstyle have other types of names like "sex killers" or "bazz mazterz" or some shit lol... uplifting trance usually has something like "rising sunset" or "from the clouds above"... hahaha YES, i know its funny, but i can seriously tell regardless of which artist it is, what style it is.... also, wen im sifting through records, i want something different, i can tell when an artists' work is the same as EVERY OTHER artist's productions, or cliche'. i like unique styles of edm, i guess, and names like "from the clouds above" just seem to be recycled over and over... shit like Marco V's "automanual" or Marc van Linden's "lh239" is what i look out for.

when i heard Solid Globe - Sahara, i didn't know the name of the tracks, but the tune was very good, when i saw the name, it appears that this song was really in the atmosphere of the Sahara desert

first comes the music the track itself. The title really doesent matter to me, although I agree that a lot of producers artist name's and titles speak for their production style. But hey if its a really a good track named BrownLunchBag - Dog shit inside (light it on fire and ring the doorbell remix) i can careless, this producer most of got inspiration from pulling pranks. I know when i produce and give something a title, it is inspired by the track itself and other things outside of music in my life.
